Publisher's Summary

Alcohol Explained is the definitive, ground-breaking guide to alcohol and alcoholism. It explains how alcohol affects human beings on a chemical, physiological, and psychological level, from those first drinks right up to chronic alcoholism. Alcoholism and problem drinking seems illogical to those on the outside; indeed, it is equally perplexing for the alcoholic or problem drinker. This audiobook provides a logical, easy-to-follow explanation of the phenomenon and detailed instructions on how to beat it. Despite being entirely scientific and factual in nature, the audiobook is presented in an accessible and easily understandable format.

"This is an excellent book written by an inquisitive and educated author who during a period of his life suffered from alcoholism. The book explains in an easily understood language the various effects that alcohol has on our body. In my opinion the text would serve as a great handbook not only for those struggling with alcohol but also medical students as part of their education. I am sure some of my own patients troubled with alcoholism in recent years could have benefited from reading William’s book and I will be recommending it going forward." - Håvard Molvik, MD, MRCS, MSc, MRCGP

Transformational

This book is so effective at making the reader/problem drinker understand that there is absolutely no benefit to drinking even moderately. I find it is a whole new level of effectiveness compared to AA.

Great education on how alcohol affects our body

Very informative book! I have learned so much and was frankly amazed at the extremely negative way that alcohol robs us of our health and so much more.
Thank you for taking the time to write this book! It certainly has made a positive impact on my life, it is a MUST read for ANYONE who drinks!

very comprehensive. brilliantly written.

its quite a long read but every sentence is of value to anyone wanting to kick the booze. I got about 2/3. through and thought, 'this is taking forever' and then realised that after getting this far I was going easily ditch alcohol. Every page is real down to earth sound advice from a guy who not only has done extensive research but has the firsthand experience. Worth its weight in gold

I am 100 days alcohol free for the first time in decades thanks to this book

The way that this is written and the information that is provided, stopped me drinking without pain, fear, dread or loss.
I am a 42 year old female who has been drinking since the age of 12, over the years my drinking had become more in volume than I had liked and more out of control than I felt ok with.
If you are even thinking about buying this book.... do it...
So far because of this book .... my body hasn’t had to deal with 60 bottles of wine (calculated by I’m done drinking app) also very useful tool. My sincere deep gratitude to William Porter for my Freedom & health.

Any additional comments?

Hard to review this book. Based on medical facts there is little but supposition the author relies quite a bit on pseudoscience to form unfounded links and conclusions. Some are basically accurate the others are pure speculation and are sometimes very much off the mark.

If you like the words 'Indeed' and 'however', of which seem to be used almost every paragraph then you will love the repetition. However (pun intended) it completely gets on your nerves and tells you the mindset of the format, which is popular belief followed by author argument. Sometimes author argument is inaccurate.

The author being an alcoholic doesn't make him an authority on the extremely complex issues why people drink although the author thinks he has the answers... He does not, at least.

Wow, I don't drink anymore and happier for it.

If you could sum up Alcohol Explained in three words, what would they be?

This explains alcohol.

What about Nick Jermyn’s performance did you like?

He does a good job, but low budget recording. Not the best quality, I listened to some of the book while driving and struggled to hear parts of it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The further you get into the book the more it starts to shift your mindset.

Any additional comments?

I decided to listen to this book to help me through dry January, I realised that like many other do have a problem with alcohol but was in denial. Mainly because I didn't want to admit it to myself as I was scared a life with out drinking would be miserable.

I thought I understood alcohol and my relationship with it, having spent many years drinking almost every night. This has totally changed my relationship with alcohol forever and I haven't drank since finishing the book. It's not only been incredibly easy but I haven't even craved a drink or felt like I'm missing out either.

Thank you William for your wisdom and helping me solve a problem in my life I thought there wasn't an answer too.

To do Dry January or Not?

I really liked this especially as it was narrated by the author.
No goals are set !
The bare facts are told and it does make you think!
I do not drink heavily but am conscious that since retiring I do not have many days off.
Also over the Christmas period the tendency is to just drink too much.
Read this and you will think again. Your body your choice!
