Publisher's Summary

We're the D'Artigo sisters: Half-human, half-Faerie, we are savvy - and sexy - operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Delilah shapeshifts into a tabby cat whenever she's stressed. Menolly's a vampire who is still trying to get the hang of being undead. And me? I'm Camille - a wicked-good witch. Except my magic is as unpredictable as the weather, which my enemies are about to find out the hard way.

At the Wayfarer Inn, a portal to Otherworld and the local hangout for humans and beasties alike, a fellow operative, Jocko, has been murdered. Every clue points to Shadow Wing, the soul-munching, badass leader of the Subterranean Realms. He has made it clear that he aims to raze humankind to the ground. Our assignment: Keep Shadow Wing and his minions from creeping into Earth via the Wayfarer. The demons figure they're in like Flynn. After all, with only my bumbling sisters and me standi g in the way, how can they miss? But we've got a secret for them: Faulty wiring or not, nobody kicks ass like the D'Artigo girls.

Let me elaborate on my 'meh.' I like mysteries. Often, mysteries have a sideshow of unrequited romance. Often, too, if the protagonist is a woman, she is attractive and kicks ass, even if it's a goofy way, like Stephanie Plum. All of these things are fine, if formulaic. This book has all of those things, but it's all a bit too cliche without anything new or interesting added. Every man wants the main character, who is busty and curvy and oops! appears naked. The sex was boring and long enough that I scrolled past it, and it took 3 scrolls. It's not a bad story, but it's not a good one. It's meh.

Loved this book!

I'm new to this series and so happy I found it! It was interesting right from the start. It not only had sexy parts, but also ones that made me laugh out loud or anxious to see what was about to happen next. I will definitely be listening to the rest of the series.

Not worth it

I can't recommend the book: no suspense, one-dimensional characters, stereotype monsters. Really nothing that convinced me and I definitly won't buy the two sequels. And yes, as others have pointed out: the authors spends more time describing lingerie, clothes, make-up etc than action. If you are interested in this genre, I would recommend Kim Harrison's Hollows series.

Had a Hard Time Getting into this Book

I tried listening to the book several times, but I had a difficult time getting into the book. Although the storyline is meant to have drama but be light at the same time. I was not drawn into the story line. This may be the only book I read from this author as a result. It's a shame because I was looking for a new series. This just wasn't for me.

Captivating First Book

If you love authors like Charlaine Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton and Kim Harrison you will love the universe that this author creates. The characters are intriguing and more complicated than they first seem to be. The plot will have you laughing, gasping, sitting on the edge of your seat and have you begging for more. I found myself very sleep deprived until I finished listening haha. I can not wait for the other books in this series.

Interesting enough

It was interesting enough to read, however it's not crazy addicting. I'm not rushing to download the next one, like I am with the Cat and Bones series by Jeanine Frost. It's not a credit waste either.

Narration is simply annoying

I purchased this book because I like this genre. I was disappointed in the narration. The narrator sounded like she had difficulty with ennunciation, especially the words ending with a "s". Although this may have been a better read than listen, I thought the author struggled with any new ideas, and decided to throw in every supernatural creature she could imagine. Shea, giants, were, vampires were only a few. I can't imagine purchasing any more of this series.

Has a Young Adult feeling to it...

It waffles between feeling like it is young adult (scenes where characters act immaturely, or in a manner that seems to be trying to impart some sort of "moral" to the reader, rather than a manner that actually suits the situation in the book) and not feeling very young adult at all (some polyamorous loving going on here).

It has an interesting world and I sort of liked the concept, but... the "battles" were pretty lame (Estep's are better) and the main character... well, she tries too hard. And is always second guessing herself, and comes across as inconsistent (both in magical powers and mental strength) and yet is in charge of the OIA on Earth... seriously?

I already have the next book in the series so I'll read it but I don't think this story was strong enough that I'd buy it now if I hadn't already. Estep's Elemental Assassin series tells the same sort of story and feels less young adult, but if you want a fairy-based story that's well written and angst-full, not to mention mature - try Moning's Fever series.

I will not be buying another book from this author. The character's lacked creativity from from their names (a villain called "Bad Ass Luke", really?) down to their predictable behavior. I had a hard time even liking the characters and believe me, I did try. The story felt undeveloped - like a rough draft. The world, the magic, and the relationships among characters were not developed in any way that made much sense. The narrator was alright, she over does the villains' voices with the raspy and shrill sounds - it was a little cheesy.

I purchased 5 of these books at once because I'm really pretty easy to please and was just looking for a nice fantasy to listen to when I work out .... I forced myself to finish this book thinking I would grow to love the characters eventually and maybe I would enjoy the remainder of the series. I don't think I can listen to another one :(

This is fun

I'm new to the modern Witch books, with all the giants, harpies, vamps, fairys, baby gargoyles and shapechangers, but so far I'm having a blast listening to it. Narrator could use a little more enthusiasum, but other then that, this book is good fun. Looking forward to the next books in the series.
