A witch. Her guardian. A stolen magic....

Witch song controls nature - everything from the changing of the season to the storms. When the witch hunters penetrate Brusenna's protected forest, she learns an impossible truth.

Stolen Songs!

I wonder sometimes if all these readers that write and give such bad reviews really should STOP reading and take up LISTENING to the stories because I never understand how they can give a story such poor ratings. I honestly think they need to hear the story and let it come to life and I think they'll all change their minds. I'm just not sure about them at all. Anyway, I don't go into details about any story that I've listened to because it just ruins it for others. Author Amber Argyle did a fantastic job with writing this story. It was adventurous, dangerous, and mesmerizing and that's all anyone really needs to know. Don't like reading the story then stop and get the audiobook, it's so much better anyway. What else can I say about it or tell you?

Melisssa Reizian Frank did a fantasic job! She made this story believable and I had no trouble with distinguishing each characters accents and voices throughout the story. I thought she breathed life into this story and she had me engrossed from start to finish. Overall, A perfect 5 star rating from me!

A Good Sci Fi Fantasy About Witches

I enjoyed listening to WITCH SONG. It was a different take on this genre which I especially liked. The characters were good and the world well-built. I loved the setting and Brusenna. She was such a great character. I like the uniqueness of the Witches as well. AMBER ARGYLE writes a good story and I'll look forward to book 2 in this series. I love stories about witches and this was a super take on it.

MELISSA REIZIAN FRANK did an overall great job narrating this story. I had to get used to her as she's a new voice talent for me, but once I did, I loved her vocal range in this. She was the perfect reader for this book. Very enjoyable!

Magical Adventure to Restore the Natural Balance

Any additional comments?

Witch Song is an extremely entertaining debut novel written by Amber Argyle. This is the first book in the Witch Song series where the title itself describes how a witch’s magic manifests itself through song. The stronger the witch’s song, the more powerful she is. I really loved how old Celtic mysticism was woven into the story with the Creators giving witches control over the four elements - air, water, fire and earth - to help all living things work in harmony with each other.

At its core, it is a story of good verses evil. The evil is represented by Witch Hunters who work for the Dark Witch and her quest for world domination. The good is represented by Brusenna, who was raised in isolation away from other witches and knows very little of how witch song controls the seasons and weather to keep a healthy balance in the world. By the time the Witch Hunters come for Brusenna, she is the last of the good witches and the world is dying. The rest of the story is about Senna’s adventure to restore the natural balance and her slow maturation into adulthood.

I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Melissa Reizian Frank who did a great job. Melissa’s narration is natural and easy to listen to, which really enhanced my enjoyment of this audiobook. I highly recommend Witch Song!

Torn about this one

Overall this was a decent listen. I enjoyed to plot, but sometimes it required more than the normal suspension of reality, it got a little extreme in a couple of places. I thought the characters could have been developed a bit more, I found it hard to care about any of them, but the story line was enjoyable, and could have been great with some people you care about in there. I would recommend it for younger teens, except for some of the violence. It is hard to say what age group the author was targeting. The narrator did a great job, and though it isn't something I will listen to again, I don't consider it a waste of time.

Unique and good

This book was given to me by the author/narrator for free for an honest and unbiased review

This is a unique and amazing story about witches, nature and Brusenna (a child) being kept in the dark by her mother about her uniqueness until someone shows up and and makes Brusenna question everything. Sometimes I felt the narrator was lagging but overall she did a great job.
I am excited to move on to the next in the series and read the prequel to this as well. There's not much more I can say that others haven't said in the other reviews. Is it worth a credit - yes most definitely!
I would recommend this book to my friends.

Happy Reading/Listening!!!

embark on a journey to save the world

Read with precision and voices to match characters, the narration is crisp enough to overcome car noise. And that is important, because you won't want to miss a word of this engrossing story.

Miss Argyle has created a world in which witches control the seasons and nature, assisting with the coming of the fall and winter and spring and summer, aiding in the growing of plants. But nature has gone awry. The seas lack winds to propel the boats, and should they set out, the thick fogs blanket all. As witches disappear from all the lands, Brusenna finds herself alone, untrained, and angry that she has been lied to her entire life. Join her as she sets out on a trek to save her mother and, perhaps, her entire world.

Not quite as seamless as the commercials would have you believe, none the less the audible system worked very well going back and forth between book and narration, laptop and phone. In fact, for large stretches when I wasn't otherwise occupied, I was able to enjoy reading along with the narration. but when I was busy in the kitchen or feeding the cats I could listen and follow the story beautifully. And this story definitely made me want to keep listening to find out what would happen next.

Great Teen & YA Paranormal Adventure

The author did an amazing job creating a unique world where witches have very important roles.

Brusenna has been sheltered by her mom and not taught about the witch's way. Her mom tried to keep her ignorant from the danger that looms but unfortunately all her mom did was leaving her untrained and vulnerable.

Witch hunters are after Brusenna because she is the last one. Brusenna must scape the Hunters and find Haven then she must succeed against the Dark Witch. She must succeed where all have failed.

Along her way she meets Joshen! He becomes her guardian. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. She is so brave and tries to do everything on her own. Good thing Joshen doesn't give up easy!

Witches use their songs to control plants & wind. They need their voices and songs to cast spells.

There were some pretty stressful situations where her foes almost defeated her but she kept pushing forward. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this tale!

There are a lot of great characters in this book. This audiobook was hard to put down because I wanted to see what happened next!

The narrator did an amazing job bringing the story to life.

This audiobook was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion.

Slow start

This story took awhile to get into, and several times I kept wishing it was over. The book on a whole was ok, but I had a hard time getting into the narrators voice. It was way too mature for the voice of a 16 year old girl. I'm not sure I'll be getting the other books in this series. I'm sorry Amber Argyle, I really wanted to love it.

A young witch determined to help others

What other book might you compare Witch Song to and why?

I can't compare it to one book but I will say what I think of the story:

When I started the book I thought it started like many others. Young girl kept in the dark by parent. Parent leaves girl alone to deal with problem. Parent doesn't return and trouble finds daughter. But somewhere along the way the story grew much more than that for me. Senna as a character changed it with being a smart girl. Senna knows what she's doing and why when sends Joshen away, she even admits it in that moment. Senna may not believe she's loved but she knows Joshen is not dumb. Both characters see that in each other and treat each other as such. Though there are naive moments on Senna's behalf, she really hadn't interacted with many people let alone kind people, Senna holds true to respecting others in their ideas and has many of her own to help.

What does Melissa Reizian Frank bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Melissa embodies the poise of the characters in her voice. As Brusenna's confidence grows, so does the strength in her voice. Melissa carries this through with the feel of all characters. Melissa does different voices and tones for each character. Her impression of Waldof had me not liking him with the tone in his (her) voice. Sly bugger. When we get to a new land Melissa speaks in the accented English to bring the world to life for us.

Any additional comments?

Some people call them witches. They fear them and blame them for the lands poor productivity. But they are Keepers of nature. The witches here have the power through song to call nature to their bidding. And their's one witch that's capturing all the others and changing the way of the weather and lands, hoping to bring all of man to bow to her.

The story has a feel of a young girl growing into her own. The writing is easy to understand and feels as it's a great story for young adults to read, even those on the younger side of YA age bracket. At least for this book. I'll see what happens in books to come. Senna knows what she needs to do, yet she thinks she should do it alone because of her losses due to the Dark Witch and what she needs to do. Senna wants to keep everyone safe. But her guardian, and dear friend, Joshen works to get her to realize what she's doing and how there are those that will work with her as it's for their livelihood too.

I knew before Senna admitted it, that I wanted Joshen to travel with her. He's a great companion for Senna and a wonderful love interest. Being a witch, people don't touch her with fear of being cursed. With her mother gone for weeks, when she finds her guardian, Joshen, she likes the feel of his touch as he doesn't fear her. Senna seems to start to fall for him in their travels together, but she figures he'd never feel the same. To be young again and experiencing love for the first time... When Senna makes a decision to keep Joshen safe, I like that she tells him why she's doing what she's doing but she still forces him to go. But at least she told him the truth in that moment too.

Senna's adventures take her from her home in the woods to the sea, traveling on the sea. Senna gets to visit a new land with different ways. I enjoyed her adventures and troubles she crossed. Senna grew up as we go along and shows she is capable of helping with her magic.

I'm very curious to carry on with Senna and Joshen in future stories. They both have captured my heart in this story.
