The Mad King Returns!

Aoth and the Brotherhood of the Griffon succeeded in rescuing Tchazzar, the lost king of Chessenta and a formidable red dragon. Upon his return Tchazzar rewards them greatly, sends them back to the frontlines - and names himself a god. Increasingly erratic in the war against the powerful dracolich, Tchazzar begins to move in ways that make Aoth suspicious that the Brotherhood may be just a pawn in a cutthroat draconic game that puts whole kingdoms at risk - a game played for a stakes of gold and blood.

Whisper of Venom features the return of popular character Aoth and his mercenary band, the Brotherhood of the Griffin, introduced in Richard Lee Byers's trilogy The Haunted Lands. Byers's signature twisted plots make this a must-have for all true Forgotten Realms fans.

mehhh

Barely passable. Not terrible, not good. Just okay. Its just basic fantasy with not much meat in characters or story.

What is the deal with Tchazzar

Would you try another book from Richard Lee Byers and/or James Patrick Cronin?

Richard Lee Byers is an excellent writer and is the reason I picked up this series. James Patrick Cronin does a good job with the narration and the voices and is really good at the various accents.

Was Whisper of Venom worth the listening time?

I'm getting more and more uncomfortable listening to this series. Usually I listen voraciously to audiobooks and burn through them very quickly. Tchazzar's involvement has made that drop considerably. He's completely insufferable at all times. Jhessri's character flaw is becoming a huge part of the plot and I find myself dreading hearing how this is going to go, because it simply cannot go well. And with Tchazzar and Halonia or however her name is spelled pretty much in charge, the series continues the trend of those in power being insufferable morons.

Any additional comments?

I was rooting for the Dracolich.

Standard Fare

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I will continue the series but you can see that this book is just a swing story to set up future novels. Not much happening here except getting things ready for the next few installments.

Would you recommend Whisper of Venom to your friends? Why or why not?

I feel like you would want to read this if you are going to read/listen to anything else in deeper in the series.

What about James Patrick Cronin’s performance did you like?

James Patrick Cronin does a pretty good job. He's in my top five and varies his voice nicely for all the characters.

Did Whisper of Venom inspire you to do anything?

Sorry, not this time around.

Any additional comments?

The characters lend themselves to make a really good series. Sometimes, things get a little too confusing with all the characters and politics being tossed around. Overall, keep reading the series.
