Publisher's summary

Battle-weary after a desperate fight to save Earth from the Drasin alien onslaught, Confederation Captain Eric Weston is tasked with a perilous new mission. He and the crew of the Odysseus must hunt down those who unleashed the hellish attack on his homeworld and that of Earth's Priminae allies.

But the situation turns dire when they catch sight of a ship belonging to the mysterious beings who orchestrate the fearsome Drasin's depredations. This powerful Empire, it seems, has two primary aims: to conquer new worlds and settle old scores. Weston's ultimate objective: keep humanity from becoming collateral damage as the Drasin war expands to engulf the galaxy.

Plodding towards the Drasin leash holders

Warrior King is Book 5 of Evan Currie's Odyssey one series. While Earth is still recovering, Eric Weston is tasked with going after the entity that had unleashed the Drasin. With a new class of starship, Weston explores the space beyond the Priminae and encounters the more aggressive human-like species that previously initiated the Drasin incursion. While the action is intense, there is little closure and mostly a setup for a longer story arc dealing with a clearly dangerous adversary that is hell bent on total domination.

The sci-fi elements are confined to the same science from previous installments. There's a bit more background on the "evil" empire that has a rigid and ruthless hierarchy. At the same time, the Priminae are coming off as a sort of Quaker-like group that split off so long ago, that their own origins have morphed into mythology. The are regarded by the empire as technologically advanced, but totally pacifist. Earth's connections to these groups is still murky and remains to be revealed. Finally, the Gaia-like entities on both Earth and Rankel are briefly inserted. They and the Drasin are likely to play more prominent roles in future installments.

The narration is rendered by the same individual from volume 4 which was a change fro the earlier versions. The performance is adequate, but not exceptional with a reasonable range of voices and gender distinction.

Great story and narrator, but too short.

I feel like this is the first half of the book that it should have been. It just got getting going and then it ended it felt like. The price was right though and looking forward to the next book soon.

Great addition

I enjoy this series immensely, the only issue I had with this book is that Star Rouge: King of thieves takes place during it, and the reading order is messed up, so I found out the plot and ending of that book before I knew it existed.

Good BOOK

Book seemed very short and story seemed a bit rushed. Good characters and nice follow through from previous book.

A little short.

Good continuation. Seemed a little short compared to some of the previous stories. Looking forward to the next installment.

another great entry in the Odyssey serie

I enjoyed the story but disliked the particular voices that were given to some of the characters in comparison to previous readings.

Enjoyable

This is a logical progression from the previous books. Much less character development, good action, and a set up for the next listen.
