Publisher's summary

When the gods come calling, you’d better have your act together.

The Wanderers have protected humankind for millennia against the forces of Darkness. Now, the last surviving Wanderer, Rafe Semmes, must again battle Rowle - the only Wanderer to ever go rogue and turn against his fellows - as Rowle attempts to kick-start Ragnarök, the battle foretold in Norse mythology as heralding the end of the world and doom for mankind and the gods themselves.

Joining Rafe in his epic struggle to stop Rowle from opening a gateway to our world that would draw the old gods into the battle is the last Wanderer apprentice, Tess. Tess is a heroic young warrior fatally wounded on the battlefield in Afghanistan, saved in the moment of death by the Norse goddess of Destiny, Verðandi, so she may aid Rafe. Tess's training is far from complete, but the battle against Rowle won't wait. Together, Rafe and Tess must overcome magical alliances and dark forces to turn back the hordes once again, or die trying.

Better than anticipated!

The Wanderers are agents in the fight against the unnatural; they keep the unnatural and all sort of villains from interfering in the affairs of humans. They live a dangerous but exciting life, and answer to or are beholding to no one but Verdandi; one of three sisters of The Norns in Norse Mythology. Ty, together with his apprentice Teresa, have been given the mission to stop a rogue Wanderer from initiating Ragnarök. Although this is volume three of the series and my first exposure to the series, the story is complete enough to stand on its own. It has piqued my interest enough to search out the first two and the fourth volumes. The characters are likable and the story quite interesting with the embedded Norse Mythology.

Easy enjoyable ride

This is my third Richard Bamberg book, and he does not disappoint. I have not listened to or read any of the other books in this series. Now I need to listen to Wanderers 1 and 2! The book ends with the lead up to book 4. The series is not done yet.

This book starts with Tess recently healed from her injuries. She is now an apprentice Wanderer to Rafe, who is the last remaining good guy Wanderer. Wanderers protect humans from knowledge of or harm from creatures from other dimensions. They have magic that draws power from the earth and Ley lines, and they can control it through use of tattoos. They have magical beasts as familiars which can transform into vehicles. Both Tess and Rafe’s become motorcycles when they need to be discreet. Somewhat hunted by Rowle, a rogue Wanderer turned bad-guy, Rafe and Tess have little choice but to attempt to stop his plans to start Ragnarök.

This book is an easy listen (doesn’t take all your attention to understand) and it’s engaging. . Rafe’s cavalier attitude is expected and not overdone, Tess is a strong, self-reliant woman who can handle herself and even Rafe, and the familiars are endearing. I enjoyed the portrayal of their magic and the conflict.

The narrator did great voicing all the characters. He brings their personalities to life, and does female voices well.

There are sex scenes but they are very tastefully done and not overly descriptive like “romance novel style”. There is no excessive violence or swearing.

Review Wanders 3

Johnny Mack gives us a great performance. He connects the story and audience together. Richard Bamberg has written this tale with suspense, intrigue, and action. Together they have produced a story you don’t want to quit listening to. I received this book free of charge, my review is my honest opinion.

Another Satisfying Entry In The Series

It's very simple, "Garden of the Gods" starts up right where book two, "Apprentice" ended. Renegade Wanderer, Rowle is about to get his wish to bring about Ragnarök by opening multiple gateways for Gods and monsters alike to travel through into our world. Wanderer Rafe and Apprentice Wanderer Tess, with all of two weeks of training, are off to Colorado to try to stop Rowle. The bottom line, if you love the urban fantasy genre and or if you've invested your time into books one and two, there is no way you will want to miss what happens next in book three. Finally, This audiobook was provided by the author at no cost in exchange for an honest review, courtesy of Audio Book Boom.

Fun Listen!

Rafe's mission to prevent Ragnarok continues in this third installment of The Wanderers Series. Assisted by Tess, his young apprentice, the story leads up to an epic battle at Garden of the Gods, located in Colorado. However, their biggest battle may be fighting the feelings they're developing for each other.

The Wanderers is a fun fantasy series that just gets better with each book and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. The author has created an imaginative, action-packed story, full of interesting characters and creatures, magic and humor. I was happy to see that Johnny Mack once again narrated the story. He has nailed the attitude and voice of Rafe and his contribution to the story enhances the listening experience. I can't wait for Wanders 4 and would recommend this and the rest of the series.

Great addition to the series!

Wanderers 3: Garden of the Gods
The Wanderers

This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I love this series! A Wanderer, a person that died but brought back to life to work for good and has magical powers, and our main guy is sexy and named Rafe. He has an apprentice and it is a woman which it is unusual, her name is Tess. Tess gets her familiar in this book. Rafe's is a Harley Davidson that really is a mythical beast when he shifts. His name is Beast.
Tess and Rafe have to work on stopping a gateway opening to an old world but harder still, they have to come to terms with their feelings for each other. Great series. Love the fantasy, adventure, magic, creatures, and characters.
Love the narrator too! Clear concise voice and makes the emotions ring true. Great voices and makes the story flow naturally. Great performance!

Amazing series!

Love this series, it just keeps getting better! Plenty of action, magic, and snark (Rafe), this is a listen that is hard to put down. Revisit old friends, meet new ones, and new enemies. Very well written and very entertaining. Fantastic narrator, he brought the story to life with unique voices for each character and use of tone. I highly recommend giving this series a listen. Fireworks Ensue

In this book, Rafe and Tess finding their rhymthm together while trouble followed them and they found themselves seeking help from Rafe’s old Shaman friend in Colorado.

There’s a decidedly exciting mid story battle with rockets, and helicopters and end battle with armies of opponents. Through it all, we see Rafe and Tess negotiate their relationship and found each other’s strength.

Johnny Mack’s narration is again flawless and I enjoyed listening to this story with its high and lows, quiet and loud tense fireworks. Definitely looking forward to the next book.
