Publisher's summary

It's 2109. BC - Bernard Campion - poses as a priest, but he's really an assassin for the New catholic Church. His assignment: Assassinate Meredith McEntyre, Governor of Lunar Prime, the non-aligned city-state on the Moon! BC is trying to take care of his "business" during an out of control interplanetary War between the west and Islam, between The Universal Trade Zone, the commercial power of Earth, and the UIN, the Universal Islamic Nation, based on Mars.

BC's bosses in the Office of Papal Operations - the OPO - tell him Luna Prime Governor McEntyre has been sympathizing with the enemy, the UIN. They can't let her give the Moon to the UIN. That's where he comes in. BC works for the Pope, "officially" assigned as PR man to the Cardinal and the Vatican Mission on Luna Prime. Just a mild mannered, young, twenty-something priest working for the New catholic Church on public relations. But under his cover he's a weapon pointed at the UIN by the NcC and their Earth based allies, the UTZ. As he goes off, the repercussions will be cosmic...

The birth of an interesting series

What made the experience of listening to Vatican Assassin the most enjoyable?

The first in an awesome Trilogy, Mike Luoma gives me hope that he will be remembered several decades from now as a popular science fiction author of our time.

Vatican Assasin stars Bernard Campion, an assasin for the New Catholic Church a century in the future. This book gets us going with some interplanetary war and an assasination order. This book sets the stage for an interesting literary world that develops nicely in the following 2 books of this trilogy then picks up later with BC's son in another series that can be found as e-books and comics. Originally released in audio format in a serial format for free by the author this brings the first book together in a re-recorded single book. While I already know the story well having listened to it for free via the podcast episodes, I happily purchased it to help support the author and to experience it once again in this new recording.

Wow! What a fun journey!

Vatican Assassin begins a six book romp into a future you will absolutely love! Mike Luoma is one of the best new story tellers in a looooong time

I had no idea I would enjoy this excursion into this unexpected future so much. Luoma has concocted a brilliant story and narrated it just as brilliantly, imparting a unique and realistic personality perfectly tuned to each character. The series is by far my favorite in many years.

Vatican is a total sleeper. It starts as an innocent detective murder mystery set in the future and rapidly grows into a uniquely plausible but completely original intergalactic space Opera in which an unexpected part of humanity rises to free the universe from an original dilemma... To say more would reveal one of the most original plots which Luoma weaves brilliantly.

I have now listened to the two beginning novels in this series more than once as they are sooooo much fun and am eagerly awaiting the next in the series. Indeed, I've been kinda spoiled and just returned a new audible book by a couple famous sci fi authors as it is a grind to get into their universe. I'm challenged now, after the easily captivating romp Luoma took me on.

This is not a simple plot by any means. Indeed it evolves into an amazingly deep future universe that keeps unfolding in unpredictable but very believable ways. It is the genius of the author that he does this smoothly and gradually, sucking you in, without requiring a lot of brainpower, until you look back and realize, WOW!
