Publisher's summary

Never had there been as close a bonding as the one that existed between the daring and adventurous young Lord Jaxom and his extraordinary white dragon, Ruth. Pure white and incredibly agile, Ruth was a dragon of many talents, though almost everyone on Pern thought he was a runt that would never amount to anything.

But Jaxom knew better, knew he could teach his dragon to fly and to destroy the deadly silver Threads that fell from the sky. Disobeying all rules, Jaxom and Ruth trained in secret. Their illicit flights seemed but a minor disobedience - until they found themselves in the path of danger and in a position to prevent the biggest disaster of all.

Book another flight with the Dragonriders of Pern.

One of my Favorite Books

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES! why you ask?!? The Late Great Anne McCaffrey at her finest

What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?

I'm not sure if it is a performance choice by Hill or the Director but many of the story parts where the dragons talk to their riders just don't quite seem right.

Dragon Fan

I am a devoted fan of Anne McCaffrey. Her dragons/riders are simply unequalled. The White Dragon is the third in the Dragonriders series and it exposes the reader to multiple facets of the lives of the Pernese people. You get a bit of weyrlife, holder life, harper life, craft life, you name it, and there's probably a mention of it in this book...Ms McCaffrey's dragons are the stuff of magic, even as an adult, I wish they were real...I've even thought of tattooing (I'm too chicken to actually do it, and know too many of the dangers/consequences) a fire lizard on my forearm...my entire family are fans. We love your work. Thank you for doing what you do so well.

Worth Repeating!

I read these books sometime ago and enjoyed them immensely! With Audible.com, I can hear a talented reader with a good voice read them to me while I do other things with my eyes and hands, like painting, counted thread embroidery, crochet or knitting etc, things from which I cannot necessarily look up to glance at the TV.

smacking lips. run away!

most of the time the narrator is fine. but anytimes a character is thinking he makes a smacking of lips or tongue sound. unpleasant after a few books of him doing the same thing.

My favorite

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend.

What other book might you compare The White Dragon to and why?

The White Dragon was my favorite of all Pern stories.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've read many books by Dick Hill and enjoyed them all. He is one of the best narrators.

One of the better Dragonrider books

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is the third book in a trilogy, you do need the back-story to really get the most out of this book. If you have read or listened to the previous books, this is a definite must as a read/listen. Many Pern books after were good, but few seemed to have the feel of the original three, none after 2001, but Todd does a great job as well.

What did you like best about this story?

Unlike most trilogies, this set seems like a true single story, with the opening for the further books that later came into being. The characters and story behind this particular book was very interesting to me.

What a Fabulous listen!!

I’ve read all of Anne McCaffrey’s books, multiple times, but have now been listening to them as I crochet. Fortunately, so far, I haven’t run across any Pern stories that are abridged. Yay! for audiobooks!!
