Critic reviews

"Frightening, sensual.... Anne Rice will live on through the ages of literature.... To read her is to become giddy as if spinning through the mind of time, to become lightheaded as if our blood is slowly being drained away." ( San Francisco Chronicle)

ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS VAMPIRES EVER! LESTAT!

This is the one vampire that EVERYONE on this planet knows the name of: LESTAT. He is Anne Rice's finest hour, her most famous creation and the beginning of her other vampire books even tho he came from Interview with the Vampire originally. This book shocked me at first, even tho I can recite the words nearly verbatim from the written word; I have read them so often. But I was astonished and DELIGHTED to hear the narrator speak in the French accent that was WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE! Reading the story never gave me the actual mental image of the French accent even tho we are told that Lestat is French and from the late 1700's, it just never came across in the written words! But the Audible version shocked and DELIGHTED me to be so AUTHENTIC with the French accent and it surely made the OLD STORY TO ME almost brand new! This narrator does such an excellent job of reading the story I simply cannot tell you how wonderful it is! You must experience it for yourself! You MUST! Lestat is so famous, the movie with Stuart Townsend was excellent, as was Akasha (actress Aaliyah) and Marius and the others was very very good; but the Audible version of the story is so much better. You will hear and understand so much more and the authentic French accent is so very original, it was not used in the movie! but it really "makes" the story so perfectly original. I highly recommend this Audible book to any Anne Rice fan, any Vampire fan and any fan of good books! There is really nothing better than classic vampire stories!

Great story, even better performance

I thought this was great. I'm not gonna go on with purely opinionated comments, but I thought it was really good. The narration was one of the best I've ever heard. I'm excited to listen to the rest of the series.

Simon Vance, the perfect voice for this series.

All that I was hoping for and more! A great novel by Anne Rice, and an equally exceptional performance by Simon Vance. Truly a delight!

A Tale to remember

I couldn't stop listening. I have always found it difficult to read. But to listen made it more enjoyable. I might be able to one day read the spoiled Prince's story. But it enthralled me like Interview with the Vampire had so long ago.

lestaht not lestaat :(

to quote corky romano "it's french"...

I know it shouldn't bother me but if you're gonna read a book named after the protagonist - you could pronounce that name correctly. no problems with Vance, he's an awesome narrator, but that's why I give 3 stars here

Really enjoyed this audio book.

I’ve always wanted to know more about the vampire chronicles since watching the movies when I was younger. I read interview with the vampire and had to get this one under my belt to. The narrator was great, he kept the story excited and I couldn’t wait to hear more.

All Hail to the Vampire Lestat

The vampire Lestat is still one of my all time favorite fantasy novels. I throughly enjoyed re-reading this novel through audible. The narrator was fantastic and even spoke in a French accent for Lestat’s character. A must read/ listen for any fantasy/ gothic horror lover!
