Publisher's summary

Olgerd and his tribal NPC gang have finally discovered the Forbidden City. Problem is, they haven't found what they were looking for. The ancient maps are hopelessly out of date, and the Ennan capital city is lying in ruins.

In the meantime, their enemies are closing in. Noctean hordes are arriving from the Silver Mountain Valley; the Dark army has already crossed the Back Stream, and the forces of Light have already entered the Icy Woods.

The magic protection sphere which Olgerd received from the city's invisible guardians is about to expire.... The only way he can save the lives of his trusty NPC friends is by activating the Twilight Obelisk.

Not what you expect

I was first drawn to the series because it wasn't a LitRPG that turns into a power trip. Oleg's ability to keep humble is one his best features. I will say of the four books this one seems the weakest as it feels like there are a lot of loose ends. In part, I feel like this was on purpose as it gives the feeling of being in a game where Oleg is ignoring the story. Some nice twists but I feel disappointed that all the friends that he made over the series boil down to a few bit parts. The NPCs are interesting but I feel that without also having some players involved it makes the story a bit dry.Still I feel its worth listening to complete the series sort of like how I feel about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It migh not be the ending we want but it at least gives us closure.

Wonderful!

It's been a while since my last listen. The story is so well done and finishing it is like waking up from a great dream. I like the hero. He does his best for his family and the clan of NPCs in the game. Always the underdog and he keeps going no matter what. The narration is well done (even some annoying voices). The narrator brings emotion and life to the story. An excellent series and great audiobooks.

Really liked the whole series

I feel like the ending was meant to continue on into another book and then suddenly it was over is my only complaint. Great LitRPG

Excellent lit RPG

Is a truly excellent thoughtful lit RPG adventure. I love how the author made the motivation of the main character personal in nature not just a murder hobo romp through a VR world.

Disorganized

First of all, read the books in order. This book lacks the introductory explanation to ease the reader into the story. This book follows on where the third book ended. Remember the mirror he got? Yeah it gets used once in this book but never explained. It's deus ex machina but the author thinks about these things books in advance so I guess it's ok.

The story is a little disorganized and isn't as exciting as the previous books in the series. This is due in part to the disconnected nature of the substories. The lead up to the next book is ackwardly tacked on. It should be an afterword.

The plot outcome is still a surprise. Yes he raids dungeons, yes he gets cool loot, and yes he levels up.

The story feels like "The Last Jedi" movie.

While I enjoyed the series and performance I felt that the writing was leading up to something more but in the end I felt the writer decided he was done with the story and just wanted to take the easy way out leaving what could have been a much better story behind. The intrigue set forth in the previous books is just cast aside with no real explanation leaving me to feel much like Star Wars episode 8...
