After surviving the Hunt on the Red Moon, Dane should have been happy to return to civilization, and, for a while, he was. But then he got bored. So when their proto-saurian friend Aratak asked Dane and Rianna to accompany him on a mission to a primitive world, where their fighting skills would be needed for the party's survival, Dane jumped at the chance. He should have remembered the old saying: Be careful what you wish for....
What would have made The Survivors better?
Okay, I am a big fan of the MZB (MZB only not want-a-be MZB writers) Darkover books. The story lines and details in those books really got me reading. Survivors is nothing like Hunters of the Red Moon or the Darkover series. If the Darkover series were as bad as Survivors with its trite story lines and predictable cliches I would likely have turned away from my sci-fi and fantasy book fetish, become captain of the football team, class president, and then ruler of the world. No such luck. So if you want to be turned off to fantasy and sci-fi please read Survivors.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Ready Player One
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Found a different book to read.
What character would you cut from The Survivors?
Probably all the main including Dane, Riana, and Aratak. However, the characters were not the issue. It was the story as a whole.
