Publisher's summary

Eli Monpress is brilliant. He's incorrigible. And he's a thief.

He’s also still at large, which drives Miranda Lyonette crazy. While she’s been kicked out of the Spirit Court, Eli’s had plenty of time to plan his next adventure. But now the tables have turned, because Miranda has a new job - and an opportunity to capture a certain thief.

Things are about to get exciting for Eli. He’s picked a winner for his newest heist. His target: the Duke of Gaol’s famous “thief-proof” citadel. Eli knows Gaol is a trap, but what’s life without challenges? Except the Duke is one of the wealthiest men in the world, a wizard who rules his duchy with an iron fist, and an obsessive perfectionist with only one hobby: Eli.

It seems that everyone is hunting for Eli Monpress.

Catch a thief: listen to another Eli Monpress adventure.

good book, great narrator

Fun, easy going adventure. Occasionally, I like to take a break from the heavy space opera, zombie, vampire or detective book and listen to something that I can actually enjoy cringe-free around my girls....and not have to worry about them hearing excessive bad language, sex, ect.
The narrator is one that I always enjoy, also. So, overall, a solid 4 star read. Enjoy!

Even better than the first book!

This book takes place soon after the end of the first book as our heroes deal with the events of the first book. Only this time we get some great new and fascinating characters.

This world and its spirit-based derivation of magic works really well. It sets up some great interpersonal dynamics, not only between people but between them and the spirits of doors, walls, rivers and trees. Only the wizards can communicate with these spirits.

And the spirits have personalities, just like people do. Genius!

The reader on this book does an even better job than he did with the last book. He is perfect for the wise-cracking Eli.

How can I not read the next one? Five stars!

Very entertaining.

The story moves quickly. I like how there is a lot of magic going on. I enjoy reading about then imagining impossible ideas.
It is great to listen to a writer that doesn't put erotica in the plot. Supernatural creatures without sex.
This is the second book in this series. I really enjoyed it as well. I purchased the third boo, yeah!

A definite good read -or listen to as the case is

Having slogged through the first book, this was a much easier one to get through as I knew the rules of this universe as well as the main characters.

In this installment of the series, Miranda has a problem. The Spirit Court is ready to convict her on twisted charges for losing Eli in the first book. Of course, there are reasons for the charge that have nothing to do with her and everything to do with politics. She escapes but is now on the run. All she wants to do is find Eli and pull him into the court, thinking that will solve everything. She's a bit of a 'true believer' in the theory of the Spirit Court, not allowing herself to see what she perceives as its values aren't necessarily anyone else's.

Eli is thrilled - a citadel advertised as thief proof - he obviously has to break in and steal whatever is in there. Only another thief got there first. Not to mention the owner of the citadel is a wizard who has no compunction about controlling spirits. Oh yeah. and the guy who tried to convict Miranda is part of the problem.

There are some wonderful twists and turns in this story. We meet the thief Eli apprenticed to. We see how bad some wizards can be. And unfortunately we see that Miranda needs to catch a clue. She's so focused on what she considers 'right' that she misses a lot of other things going on.

Daniels once again did a great job. Each voice was recognizable and made the book come alive.

if you enjoy anime sagas

I am not the right audience for this series but I see where it will be perfect for other folks. Adventure, suspense, no romance but strong platonic relationships.

A solid story, combat too one sided

I didnt form any strong opinions of this book until near the end. Which counts as a good thing. Means I was too busy listening to it to think about it. So Pretty good. One thing I didnt like was the combat. The characters were just too overpowered to make for interesting combat. Instead the actual conflict was some emotional thing about not accessing the full extent of his overpowered powers.

It takes a thief

I loved everything about the books(I wasn’t able to leave a review on the first novel The Spirit Thief, but it’s such a great introduction you should definitely start there)
The Reader is fabulous, the characters are different and interesting and fun. I totally love Eli, and his friends, the personalities totally balance out.
Really looking forward to the third book. Hope you like this as much. It will take you away on a fantasy romp of righteousness.
