Publisher's summary

Hi, I'm Arthur Merlin. I used to be an ordinary guy, until a freak accident changed my life. Now my friends are afraid of me, and so am I. See, I developed superpowers: telepathy, pyrokinesis and telekinesis, to name a few.

The US government want to control me. But how do you control someone who can teleport anywhere he wants to in a blink of an eye? Fed up with their shenanigans, I head for the Institute of Psychic Research in London.

But something is pulling me; calling me, and I don't know what. I end up at Lake George, where sightings of The Lady of the Lake and Excalibur have been reported. With the help of Dr. Burns and Commander Dobie, we uncover the secrets of the lake, but they're more than anyone imagined.

What will I sacrifice to save the world from Excalibur?

A fast paced story you don't want to miss

Somehow I expected this to be a time travel story where the lead character found the sword and it took him back to King Arthur's time. I kept looking for the find but it was not there.
Instead I found an excellent narrative about a man with psychic powers trying not to be controlled while also following his own code.
This novel was a little more sexually explicit than I prefer but it did fit with the final story line.
Overall a well written story that is engaging and fast paced. The voices fit the characters and wer well defined.
Don't be shy, you'll love this one if you like modern day tales with the Arthurian legend.

A Different Mind Control Story!

We start with an American in England with all the possible gifts of the mind. Why is he there? What does he want? How will he keep from being controlled? What does Excaliber have to do with him? While this was a fun book it seemed like it more evolved as the author wrote it than that if followed a planned outline to the finish. Some of the plot lines seemed to change and the story progressed. It was definitely worth listening to.

I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

An arousing tale of Merlin!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Secret of Excalibur to be better than the print version?

I think this book might have been better if I read it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Merlin... Arthur Merlin...(in the voice of Sean Connery)!!

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Slow down and take a breath. It felt like it was rushed. If it wasn't for the narrator abilities to create different voices for all the charters introduced, I would have not given Performance 3 stars.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nope, this was a fun read. I loved the story and who cares if there were so much sex involved. I think if I had those super power abilities I would have done the same things.

Any additional comments?

Here is another book that I am glad that i was given a copy to review. This is not what I normally would have read and I am so glad that I did. Was the story polish and smooth? No, but it didn't need to be because this was a fun read and if you are looking for a book to take your mind off the hustle and bustle this is the one. This is the kind of book I would love to read when I travel.

Twist on Excalibur

I really enjoyed this twist on a modern day King Author/ Excalibur story until the end. I was enjoying the characters and their interaction until the conclusion. It went in a direction I wasn't expecting at all. I really kept expecting for someone to "wake up" from a dream at toward the end of the book so that what really happened could be explained.

I have gotten so involved with the characters that I will listen to the next one, but I'm really not sure how I feel about the direction the book took at the end.

SCI FI

Any additional comments?

This is a tale mixing legend and fantasy with a modern twist of super hero with different kinds of powers. The author delivers a good story with plenty of plots going on throughout. The writing was straightforward and smooth. I really enjoyed the characters and supporting characters.

Wonderful Fantastical "Origins" Tale!

Any additional comments?

The Secret of Excalibur by Sahara Foley is a wonderful fantastical tale of the infamous sword, but set during modern times - or least in the 1980's. The story centers on Arthur Merlin, a once ordinary guy, who possesses superpowers like teleportation and pyrokinessis. Trying to make sense of his new found powers, he travels to the Institute of Psychic Research in England and there he meets Dr. Ruth Burns. Besides being an expert in psychic powers, she is also an expert on tales of Excalibur and "The Lady of the Lake" - the higher being who supposedly gave King Arthur his sword in a time of great need.

Ruth and Arthur have an instant attraction to each other that quickly leads to earth shattering sex (I'm not sure what sex had to do with story, but there are several relatively short sex scenes, some of which are comically written and thoroughly enjoyable). Together Arthur and Ruth travel to Lake George - the place where Excalibur and the Lady of the Lake stories supposedly originated - where they find the answers they were seeking. There are a few plot twists that caught me off guard in addition to hints of Excalibur having a mind of its own (similar to the "Sword of Gryffindor" of the Harry Potter stories).

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by by Lynn Roberts who did an admirable job. She clearly differentiated between male and female voices and changed the tempo in the performance when warranted. I received a copy of this audio in exchange for an unbiased review. Simply put, I highly recommend this audiobook!

Twisty tale with unexpected finish!

This story starts on an odd note and then proceeds right into the bizarre. I was unable to put it down!

Kitchen Sink Superhero

Arthur Merlin does it all, from telepathy & pyrokinesis to telekinesis & matter creation, your not-so-typical kitchen sink superhero. Too bad the governmental agency bureaucrats keep trying to own him instead of letting Arthur work with them.

This book by Sahara Foley was fun with lots of twists & turns, action, mystery, romance and even some Arthurian legends thrown in. I found it hard to put down, especially when it got to the Arthurian section.

I enjoyed Lynn Roberts' narration, good character voices & personalities. At times it was a little speedy for my taste but mostly very good..
