A fun classic.

Would you consider the audio edition of The River of the Dancing Gods to be better than the print version?

I would say the audio is about as good as the book. They are different from one another but both are excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

It brings back good memories and it was a refreshing change at a time when the genre was pretty stale.

Have you listened to any of Eric G. Dove’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't heard any of his other performances, but he does an excellent job in this book. He has a good range of voices and a pleasant standard narration voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, this is a light read. it is amusing butnot laugh out loud funny.

Any additional comments?

This is a good book combined with a good narrarator. After book 2 the quality of the story starts to drop and after book three I didn't find the series worth very much. This book is a great one, however.

Finally!

I've been an Audible listener for years, and I periodically search for certain authors. Finally, some of Jack L. Chalker's work has appeared! Here's hoping to see the rest of the Dancing Gods, all of the Well World, and the Four Lords of the Diamond. Maybe even "And the Devil Will Drag You Under". Please?

This is a fun series, and much lighter than his other work. Great characters and that twist of body changing and self identity discovery. Two people going nowhere end up going somewhere they never imagined, learning about magic and the River of Dreams, and being tasked with an epic quest.

Chalker is classic Sci/Fi Fantasy.

Finally We Get Jack Chalker!

Where does The River of the Dancing Gods rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you want a good; fun fantasy novel, it is a great little read. This is not epic fantasy but there are some great elements to the story and a lot of poking fun at fantasy cliches.

What other book might you compare The River of the Dancing Gods to and why?

Magic Kingdom for Sale by Terry Brooks

What does Eric G. Dove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a good narrator but not my favorite.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are many funny moments in the book. I love Chalker's writing style.

Any additional comments?

Audible definitely needs to produce the Well of Souls series by Jack Chalker. It is a better series than this one and would be very popular. This book brings back memories of being a 13 year old kid exploring this world for the first time. I would definitely recommend it.

Good Old Fashioned Fantasy

Would you consider the audio edition of The River of the Dancing Gods to be better than the print version?

I loved Chalkers books when I was a teen. It was good to revisit him. I hope that the Well World series is not far behind. Thanks Audible.

Fantastic telling of a book that should be a class

What made the experience of listening to The River of the Dancing Gods the most enjoyable?

I love Jack Chalker's books, he wrote stories that made me love the characters he created, from the Dancing Gods to Soul rider to The Four lords of the Diamond (just mentioning a few), all his books have great characters. I wondered if an audiobook read by a single narrator could pull off all these amazing characters and do them justice. Well, the narrator did an amazing job, and pulls it off beautifully. The book is so charming and fun, and with this great narration, comes alive. I find myself smiling as I listen.

What did you like best about this story?

It's Jack Chalker, so it's going to be a great story. This is one of his best, a comical irreverent take on the fantasy genre. Why this book hasnt become a movie, TV show, or mini-series, I have no idea. This deserves to be told in that way, it's just too good not too.

What does Eric G. Dove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Eric surprised me with how great his narration was. I wasnt expecting that a single voice could pull off all these amazing varied and different characters but he did. This was not an easy task, he didnt incredibly well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book has always made me smile and the audiobook just as much. There is alot of humor and silliness in the series but not over the top. This is a charming story and a must for fans of fantasy that love great characters but dont take the genre so seriously all the time.

Any additional comments?

My personal favs of Jack Chalker are The four lords of the diamond series, The River of the dancing Gods series, and The River of the Dancing God's series. You cannot go wrong with any of those. Wish someone would make these books as well as the well of souls series into a movie-Miniseries-or Tv series.I wish jack was still here with us writing his amazing stories.

A return to my Youth. A great book and great audio

Any additional comments?

I had read this book shortly after High School, and remember enjoying it immensely. And thirty years later - I still have the book, yellow pages and all. I purchased the audio book to re-familiarize myself with the stories and was not disappointed. The story retained its creativity and it is amazing how well the assessments of man the author made years ago hold even more true today. Being older, I was able to better enjoy some of the perspectives brought to the story by the characters then when I was still in my teens. The narrator has done a wonderful job bringing the story to life, and my only regret was when the book ended. But the fix for that was simple. Book 2 was just a download away.
