HORRIFYING ZOMBIE BOOK

28 DAYS + WALKING DEAD + ZOMBIE FALLOUT + DAY BY DAY ARMAGEDDON = THE REMAINING!

AFTER SPENDING THE YEAR WADING THROUGH HORRIBLE ZOMBIE/APOCALYPTIC BOOKS I FINALLY FEEL THE WASTED CREDITS REDEEMED BY D.J. MOLLES THE REAMING SERIES. THOUGHT I WAS NOT GOING TO LIKE THIS SERIES AS MOST BOOKS INVOLVE EX MILITARY TRYING TO SURVIVE DURING A ZOMBIE OUTBREAK BUT WOW WAS I GLAD I TOOK A CHANCE. I HAVE FINISHED ALL FOUR BOOKS IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN.

LEE (MAIN CHARACTER) IS MY HERO. I WOULD LIKE THIS BOOK TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE OR TELEVISION SERIES.

ZOMBIES IN THE STORY ARE HORRIFYING. SCENARIOS INVOLVING HUMANS ARE HORRIFYING. THIS IS A HORROR BOOK!

NARRATOR WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!

2x

THAT WAS JUST A PILL HE WOULD HAVE TO SWALLOW
Better then book 2, but no where near as book 1. If I didn't like book 2, you are wondering why I bought book 3. I loved book 1 and before I had a chance to listen to book 2, book 3 went on sale. The reviews were good so I bought it, a mistake I shall never make again. There were some tense times, finally toward the middle of the book and there was a new development, but all in all the book is boring and not much different then all the other Zombie books.

TOMLIN DIDN'T SEEM TO WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTION DIRECTLY.
I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING.
This book is big on the cheap ploys, made to stretch a story out to book length. Our main character is told he needs to come to camp so and so right away, a stranger is asking for him. No, we don't know his name, no we don't know what he wants to talk to you about, but he knows your name. After a long drawn out process to find out who the guy is and why he wants our hero (a long drawn out melodramatic process.)Our hero asks did you kill so and so, the answer is finally yes, we the reader know why, but our hero who seems to be all brawn and no brain, is clueless. In this book all liberals are far left, all conservatives our super patriotic and far right, all bad guys are super evil, and all good guys are super sweet. No body is in the middle and there are no gray areas. If you loved book 2, you will love this. If you did not like book 2, you will not like this. That was helpful, right.

2x
This narrator reads every line like it is the title to a movie. This makes the sentences drawn out and slow. I put him on 2x and once I got use to the mickey mouse voice the tempo was much to my satisfaction.

slow boil to mind-blowing wtf ending

If you could sum up The Remaining: Refugees in three words, what would they be?

sorry, i've got 6 words. as lee says, "you can't choose who you save!"

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Remaining: Refugees?

easily, the end. it's SHOCKING! i had to pick my brain up off the floor! puh-lease nobody reveal what happens! i was kind of pissed at the reviewer who revealed lee had to put down tango! if you reveal what happens, you'll forever be on my s#!t list!

Any additional comments?

refuges picks up 3 months after book 2. lee has been able to establish the camp ryder hub- a small collection of semi-safe zones. camp ryder is becoming too crowded with refuges, and tempers are flaring b/c lee's supplies only go so far. there is a dichotomy between the best way to survive- hunker down in isolation or expand and welcome all survivors. honestly, it would be a hard choice, and dj molles does a good job building the tension b/ween the factions. it's kind of a slow boil, but when things finally come to a head, it's an explosive climax!

i'm not spoiling anything by saying jerry isn't your typical villain, but i liked the direction dj molles went with it. it's been building, and jerry's slick ways of doing things add to the complications lee faces.with the influx of new refuges,

there are new friends and new enemies. dj molles does a good job of differentiating all of the characters so you don't get lost in who's who. the characters have different motivations, and there's a lot of character development.

dj molles keeps the tension building with internal and external threats. the infected are changing and in an interesting way that i didn't expect, which is refreshing!

at the end of book 2, we're introduced to jacob, who's forced to kill the coordinator from virginia. i like how dj molles weaves him into the plot, and what he brings to the table. there are a few surprises in this series, and i like how dj molles uses them. they don't feel fake or contrived. rather, the surprises add to the plot and make the story even more interesting. and yes, there are a couple of nice surprises in this book!

i thought this book was a little slower than the first two, but i liked it just the same as the intrigue builds to the explosive climax that'll have you downloading book 4 no matter what time it is!

continues to be an excellent series

Refugees (The Remaining) by D.J. Molles continues to be an excellent series.

Captain Lee Harden has fought hard and long but there is no end in sight. Working day and night to keep Camp Ryder and its occupants safe is a full-time job and his mission. Not only does he have to protect them from the zombies, but now he discovers there are different and even more deadly types of zombies out there just beyond the gates. Throw in a struggle for power within the camp and a group of religious fanatics that have idealist plans to being a new religious world, and the huge red target painted on his back – well, he just never gets a break.

His friends and colleagues are also faced with difficult decisions, responsibilities and the need to protect Harden and the camp.

The characters are well developed as is the plot. The fresh new take on the zombies is unique and exciting; with lots of battles and skirmishes of varying kinds with guns and strategies.

Molles’ definitely knows how to turn a plot twist that leaves one breathless and sputtering in shock.

The narrator, Christian Rummel does a superb job at the voices and inciting excitement when needed. He speaks clearly and his enunciation is perfect.

The audio production of this book was fine, there were zero issues.

Series Has Promise; Refugees Doesn't Deliver

Enjoy Apocalyptic Fiction? Read the First Two Entries in The Remaining series. They are top-notch, action thrillers. But maybe you should skip this increasingly silly entry in the series.

Why? A believable action hero is now maudlin and self-pitying. He day-dreams, takes obviously foolish risks, and refuses to hear new information in order to indulge personal pique. Most important, in response to the existential threat facing his band, he develops a defense plan based on geography and terrain that overlooks obvious routes to circumvent the defense.

In short, the trained, capable, resourceful leader in the first two novels is transformed here into a depressed, self-indulgent, self-important idiot who puts his people at risk, withholds information they should have for no reason other than personal secrecy, ignores sources of important information, overlooks obvious dangers and presses schemes that could not work anywhere except in the world of fiction.

Let's hope the next entry in the series returns to the standards of the first two and thereby justifies suspending disbelief and struggling through this disappointing offering.

Too Many Twists!!!

Great follow up to the 2nd book. What I liked is that you can't know if things are getting better or worse for the survivors.. Its like they don't know what they want and some are never happy. Lee faces too many challenges from every side and finds new challenges he had never expected.

The ending of this book though was my favourite, I knew what was coming, but still I was shocked and really enjoyed it.... Will start the fourth book soon.

I had my doubts regarding this series, but every book is getting better and better.

Great book despite the cliff-hanger

The Remaining: Refugees continues the story of Captain Harden and his group form Camp Ryder. This volume of the series deepens the mystery of what’s going on as well as adding in a number of fronts the remaining have to fight on and really expands the plot. Moving from one flight to the next keeps the reader engaged and with none of the main characters being safe you never know who may buy it next. My only complaint is the leaving of a large cliff-hanger making the reader to commit to the next book in the story “Fractured” if he/she wants any conclusion in this story.

The narration really brings all the characters to life!

The build up is worth it

Continues to keep me buying the series. This one slowed down but with a purpose, just keep listening and then your brain will literally explode. I'm a mailman and it did. I had to pick up a lot of mail afterwards.

I did find some small things that always bug me about zombie books though. It's a zombie apocalypse not a nuclear holocaust, so why are they living in old wooden shacks with only tarps for roofs? If they're scavenging, hit a motor home dealership for Pete's sake. I mean really. It's like in the walking dead when they were driving around in the oldest RV on the planet. Come on. Sewing clothes? It's been what, 3-4 months and they're sewing? You can't find a Kohls, a walmart, a...any of a about a billion stores that sell clothes? And why were they using and reusing plastic silverware until they fell apart? Again, anyone scavenging could easily find enough silverware in homes for 60 people.

And then my old least favorite cliche...the nutter religious folks. See my review for "14." I was really disappointed knowing they were the ones "killing for god." Bah. Still, can't put series down though. The narrator is perfect.

Gets better with each new Book!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Remaining: Refugees to be better than the print version?

I do love the Christian Rummel's reading of this book. he does a very good job. But it is definitely D.J. Molles material that makes this series pop. I listened to the first book and before done downloaded the second, third and fourth. I have not listened to another book since I have started this series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Remaining: Refugees?

When the antagonist turns against the main group and gets enough others to do it too. It was so very anxiety producing.

Which character – as performed by Christian Rummel – was your favorite?

I still love the hero Lee Harding. He is such a believable hero with self doubts and personal foibles. What Molles does it make him a soldier first. As he says, “I am not a super hero. But a soldier and I am good at what I do."

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I did like when he finds another dog, but this is not an emotional book. The anxiety of working with the different groups led by inferior people is probably the most emotions of the book. the zombies are the least of the problems, it is the other survivors

Any additional comments?

I would start at the very first book and go through them one by one. They are all great but it is fun to build upon the foundations of the others.
