Publisher's Summary

Keep your head down. Do what you're told. It's easier that way.

Walter Lawrence Baucom is used to the troops that patrol Agrarian District 89. He grew up with the sight of Chinese and Russian soldiers, right alongside the American ones. They are the Coalition. "The Three Brothers", they call themselves. They claim that they are there to help. And he thinks that if he doesn't rock the boat, then they will never have a reason to break in his door and disappear him, like they did to his brother.

But when a Chinese captain is kidnapped by resistance members, Walter is suddenly thrust into a fight he never wanted. A fight where there are many sides, but very few allies. As things in District 89 quickly spiral out of control and the borders are closed by Coalition troops, Walter will have to make a decision: What is he willing to fight for?

His life? His freedom?

His family?

    "SO THE WIND BLOWS"

HE HAD GROWN MENTALLY FAT ON THE COMFORT OF SOCIETY
I love the concept of this book, just as in Philip K. Dick's, THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE. This is a future where The United States has allowed China and Russia to come into our country and help police it. We are not told exactly what happened, but it is obvious that these countries were invited in. Molles gives us a great comparison that explains how this could happen. He talks about frogs. If you put a frog in a pot of boiling water, he will try to escape, but if you put him in a pot of cool water and than slowly raise the temperature, he will allow you to boil him alive.

It may seem impossible, but here in Missouri, we have allowed the Chinese to buy up a lot of our farm land and they are chopping down the hard woods and sending them back to China. It was a big issue in the last election. I also believe that China owns most of our debt? It is improbable, but not impossible.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO WITH THE WIND, YOU CAN RUN AGAINST IT.
Because, I find the subject matter so interesting, I bought the book. Why the low rating you ask? In this book like so many other books written by Molles, I find he has a good idea to start with, that he is a good word smith, but that his books usually end up with wild chase scenes and lose their structure. In this book, after taking time to set up an interesting universe and giving us a good character, he then has the character running around accomplishing nothing. Their is a several hours long chase scene, where the reader does not know where the character is running to. The book has a good opening, in which we get to see things through the eyes of a genetically advanced Chinese Solider, but after the opening scene that is all we get. Even though Vaughn Heppner is not the word smith Molles is, I like his invasion series better, due to Heppner giving us the story through the eyes of the bad guys, as well as the good guys.

Rummel does a fine job reading this.

This book is fantastic! Easily my favorite book of 2017 so far. Glad to see the author gets the terminology right throughout the book. Many kudos. After Wolves, this book cements D.J. Molles as one of my favorite authors. Highly recommended.

    "My 4 stars is most people's 5"

I had to give this 5 stars, I rarely give out 5 stars unless I am blown away and cannot put the book down. I have been very lucky and on a streak of amazing books. Try Awaken online!! If you loved Ready Player One then Awaken is even better and a series to boot! Purge was amazing, I loved Wolves as a stand alone and the Remaining series! I love Christian Rummel's narration! This book has a great premise, US is under occupation by China, Russia and our cooperative government the Fed. Short set up leads right into amazing non stop action with amazing twists right until the end leaving you wanting more!! I was lucky and started the remaining series after it was finished, this will be hard to wait for each sequel, but I will be!! Amazing Characters, plot and performance as always!!

    "Great story and excellent narration!"

I couldn't stop listening D.J. Molles is very descriptive in his writing and Christian Rummel brings it all together with his Narration. I am a huge fan of typical s.h.t.f. novel's and this was a good break from that genre.

The Purge of District 89 is a look into dystopian future reminiscent of the Hunger Games series but with a feel of 1984 by George Orwell. You won't be disappointed!

good story, great narration, feel it just cut off at the end. I know it is part of a series and was left wanting more but feel like it was just the opening scene. did prefer the remaining series though
