Publisher's Summary

Loren is a girl like any other - but with dreams larger than all the nine lands.

Loren has grown up in the forests of the kingdom of Selvan, raised by cruel parents who see her only as a burden to be married off as quickly as possible. But driven by whispered tales around campfires in her youth, she has always dreamed of something greater. And something darker as well.

After 15 years of toil, when the wishes of her heart have very nearly died out, a spark arrives to rekindle them: a half-glimpsed coat of blue, dodging through the trees of the Birchwood. A wizard. A man from the outside world. A fugitive.

Escape. The Nightblade Epic, Volume 1 includes Nightblade (Book 1), Mystic (Book 2), and Darkfire (Book 3).

the Nightblade is awful

I really enjoyed the story and the performance on Audible was quite nice. However, the heroine of the Epic is such a total d-bag. When things were moving along this story was very interesting, but everytime Loren opened her mouth I wanted to burn the book. Fortunately the book ended in such a solid manner that I don't feel like I need to read anymore.

couldn't finish it

The lead heroine really gets on my nerves . She acts like an arrogant spoiled brat in desperate need of a spanking before she gets herself or someone else killed . I am taking it in small doses hoping she gets better . I like the idea of his story line and most of the other characters, so I'm hoping she gets better .

Nah I say! This booketh sucketh

Stop trying to use old English in every sentence!!! We get it, you want this to sound like an epic story of old. The book is terrible. The lead heroin is ridiculous. Im half way through and I just can't take anymore. I now have to go back to the "wheel of time" series to make up for this.

I hate the lead character!!!!

I like the story but the Lauren and the other girl got on my nerves. They were so bratty and difficult. everyone but them had flaws in their mind, got on my damn nerves. But I will be listening to the next one because it is a good story worth my time.

I wanted to like this book

Any additional comments?

There were three main things that made this book just impossible for me to get through. First I have a pet peeve about authors trying to sprinkle in touches of old English with words like "mayhap" every other sentence to make their work sound more accomplished. Second, The character development is painfully nonexistent - not only that but the ages that characters are supposed to be do not match up with their actions, reasoning or speech. Lastly, the first ten hours seem more like an authors brainstorm than an actual story. The plot lacks direction for the first eleven hours and I refuse to dedicate another 11 hours to find out if Garret Robinson can find his story.<br/>This book seems aimed at an adult audience but written as though the audience has the education level of an average 12 year old. I will be returning this one. don't waste a credit.

less impressive than title

Hillary Huber; lovely voice, excellent narrator. The rest becomes repetitive, undeveloped, more aimed at YA

Annoying

I found both the story and narration annoying. The plotline is lacking. The voice acting for a few of the characters made me kringe.

Most Poorly written book i have ever listened to

What disappointed you about The Nightblade Epic, Volume 1?

The Dialog in this story is childish and unimaginative, I can't even finish it. The story line is basic, simple and completely predictable.

What could Garrett Robinson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Write with more depth and imagination

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

no

Any additional comments?

I have been reading books since I could start reading. I am 59 and usually am reading and listening to more than one book at a time. 90% of my reads are science fiction fantasy. I never write a review to a book but this book compelled me to.

not worth your time

The narration was good, but the voices for most characters was cringing to stomach. The characters constantly whine and piss and moan and do things against what they moan about. One event with one off the side kicks made me especially angry. There are millions of great books out there. Find one of those.

Engaging enough but weird dialogue

The story was engaging enough, but nobody in this book talks remotely close to how a real person would.

Awesome story

What made the experience of listening to The Nightblade Epic, Volume 1 the most enjoyable?

Fab narrator and I really wanted to know what would happen next.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Nightblade Epic, Volume 1?

Awesome battle between Xain and Vivien.

What does Hillary Huber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The narrator is very good. I'm not always a fan of American narrators but her voice is very pleasant to listen to.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I definitely got tearful at one point and there were multiple touching moments.

Any additional comments?

This felt like great value with so much content. The author's other books are great reading too.
