Publisher's summary

This boxed set contains the first three books in C. J. Archer's popular Ministry of Curiosities series. Titles in the set include:

  1. The Last Necromancer
  2. Her Majesty's Necromancer
  3. Beyond the Grave

Description of The Last Necromancer:

For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.

People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.

Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly made creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?

Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting.

Excellent Purchase 3 books in 1

Wasn't sure I would like reading about a necromancer but this series has been a nice easy read, I think this series would be appropriate for a young adult and has been a good listen during my morning walks.

Starts off great

The narrator is superb, producer also did a great job. First book was exciting and different. Character was a scrappy young woman who was forced to live on the London streets in the late 1800’s as a boy to survive. As the books progressed the scrappy , determined young woman becomes a young woman scared to make a decision in case she offends the man that she now cares and works for. The interesting young woman that was such a force turned into someone else. You might enjoy these types of books , I’m not much of a fan

Great concepts, interesting characters

other than the street urchin accent, the performance was great. The story, some will love and some will hate. I think it is very good in regards to Etiquette for the time period. If you don't understand the time period, you won't like some parts and why he does certain things. Overall, I liked it which is bad because there are 7 more books to go! And that's a hard on the pocketbook!

Surprised that I listened to these all at once

I stuck with these and I will look for the next epidsode in this series. I have to say this could have been one book and not three.

Captivating story and electric writing.

I laughed a lot on this story. The clever banter is enjoyable. I think it has also improved my vocabulary and I am descriptive as well. I didn't want the story to end.

Easy to listen

The books flow easily from 1 to 3 when book 3 ends the story just stops with a The End it made me think there should be a book 4

Good tales! Could do without the predictable swooning

I like the story arcs. I like the mysteries, the supernatural elements, seeing the class differences and rigidity with which lives were proscribed in earlier times. I like the red herrings, even the ones you see coming.

What I find eye rollingly tedious, however, are the bodice ripper elements. "Kiss me, you big fool!" How can you NOT roll your eyes at a line like that? Not only do I find those unnecessary aspects to these stories, they are hackneyed as can be. There is nothing about them that I find either original, surprising, or much embellishment to the storylines. But since anyone can see where they're going, it's easy to fast forward through them. Also the characters don't really develop. They are who they are, beginning to end.

That said, I still enjoy the stories enough to keep following them.

Spoiler

Review on "Beyond the Grave"
Charlie's really starting to annoy me. She will not listen and does whatever she wants and does not think of the consequence.
But i guess getting a reaction like annoy makes this book good.

Fabulous historical fantasy

I loved these three books. Especially for lovers of the Victorian era, fantasy, suspense and romance. Exciting and well written.
