Publisher's Summary

Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content.

From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms - and perhaps lay down their lives - for the cause. Rey, the orphan strong in the Force; Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who stands against his former masters; and Poe Dameron, the fearless X-wing pilot, have been drawn together to fight side-by-side with General Leia Organa and the Resistance. But the First Order's Supreme Leader Snoke and his merciless enforcer Kylo Ren are adversaries with superior numbers and devastating firepower at their command. Against this enemy, the champions of light may finally be facing their extinction. Their only hope rests with a lost legend: Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Where the action of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins, as the battle between light and dark climbs to astonishing new heights.

You will love the audio version.

I am blind, and after I heard the movie in the theater, I was told that the visual effects were not as good as previous films in the franchise, So after I heard this audio version of the novel, I was very impressed. I am also pleased that the director of the film had a hand in writing the novel. I like his inclusion of alternate scrips, and deleted scenes, as in many of the books in the star wars series, I find that you get a deeper look into some of the characters. I was pleased to hear what look was going through since his nephew turned to the dark side, and why he was so reluctant to help the resistance. I like the look into Ren's character as well, and I was amazed at the turn in the plot that was not expected. If you have not seen the film, and are listening to this for the first time, you will be shocked at the plot twist. All in all, this book is well written, and the performance is well done as usual with all the audio novels in this series.

5/5

Amazing! The "additional scenes" and added insight into the characters' thoughts and actions were a fantastic addition to an already great story. Not to mention Marc Thompson delivered yet another incredible performance and Jason Fry's contributions/adaptations to Rian Johnson's script were fantastic. Highly recommend for any Star Wars fan and especially Canon lovers.

True To Star Wars Audiobook Form!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Jedi to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version but have actually preferred the Star Wars audiobooks instead due to their performances and addition of music from the movies.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Jedi?

I enjoyed the numerous different additions in the story, such as the prologue twist at the beginning.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was getting more detail at what happened at the end of the book/movie.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nothing in particular

Expanding on the movie

Marc Thompson is still the king of narrating, and even though we didn't get to hear his signature Han or Lando voices, he gives enough inflection to differentiate between the Finn and Poe voices.

This book goes into a little more depth than what we get to see in the movie, especially since the screenwriter himself contributed to the writing of this novel. We learn what those little strange beings on the Island is called and their purpose, and most importantly we hear Luke's thoughts at the end of the movie.

The character of Amilyn Holdo also gets a little bit more focus, in that we learn of the relationship between Leia and Holdo over the years. Fry also gets into the heads of the civilians that witness the aftereffects, including the child that received Rose's ring.

Overall, it's a fun listen. It's Star Wars, just not the one you're used to.

I love it, the book adds more depth to the movie.

This book is great for any Star Wars fan. I can't wait for Episode IX to find out what happens to all the characters.

I cheered at the end!

I love audiobooks however, this was my first fiction. I’m a fan of Star Wars. I didn’t expect this book reading to be so dramatic with sound effects and score. The experience of this book was what I hope people who are blind get.
I have never been on the edge of my seat like this with an audiobook! I certainly will listen to again. May the force be with you.

A Rewarding Retelling

After months of waiting I finally finished this book much sooner than expected.

I enjoyed it very much. The film played clearly in my head as I followed along. Additional scenes and dialog were very easy to visualize. There weren't many, which I feel is good. 'The Force Awakens' novelization was fantastic but a bit overloaded with stuff that didn't make the cut of the film. They also threw off the pacing.

This book trimmed down on filler material and did a good job in keeping the pace of the story and offered pleasant enhancements in some of the unseen subplots. That is what led to the shorter running time. No problem there with me.

For those that were disappointed in the film, this novelization really could soften the blow. It may just help them understand why the film flowed as it did. For those that loved the film, like myself, it's another fine addition to a growing collection in the new canon.

It was a fun read.

Disappointing ... great performance, weak story

I really love Star Wars. This story was so weak I cannot recommend it. I feel as if the whole thing was just a thrown together plot mover that leaves the reader sad and underwhelmed. Please make the next one better ...

Marc Thompson knocks it outta the park again!

Definitely a must listen if you're a fan of SW on audio. Marc is the very best and the production was as great as always.

Wow so Bad

the stuff with Luke Skywalker just sucks. I'm not sure why they would write a book and the movie where it seems they go out of their way to make you not like the characters. the old canon books were way better then this crap

Action movie

Like it, but it's an action movie, that never ends. It is not a book.
