Publisher's summary

Retired from his fighting days, John Perry is now village ombudsman for a human colony on distant Huckleberry. With his wife, former Special Forces warrior Jane Sagan, he farms several acres, adjudicates local disputes, and enjoys watching his adopted daughter grow up.

That is, until his and Jane's past reaches out to bring them back into the game — as leaders of a new human colony, to be peopled by settlers from all the major human worlds, for a deep political purpose that will put Perry and Sagan back in the thick of interstellar politics, betrayal, and war.

The highly anticipated conclusion to John Scalzi's SF trilogy begun with Old Man's War and The Ghost Brigades concludes with The Last Colony

Good ending.

If you could sum up The Last Colony in three words, what would they be?

Space is Harsh

What did you like best about this story?

The ending.

Any additional comments?

second best book in the series, worth grabbing if you liked Old Man's War.
You could skip the middle books too...all you miss is Sophie's fathers story-line.

Third in the Series

If you could sum up The Last Colony in three words, what would they be?

Again, Scalzi doesn't disappoint with this well-crafted 3rd book in the Old Man's War series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Colony?

When you discover the final plan to protect the colony, you can't help but smile.

What does William Dufris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does such an excellent portrayal of each distinct voice that the book really comes to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely.

Good book.

It reminds me of Robert Heinlein and this is a good thing. The third book even better then the first two.

interesting story with many creative surprises. The last and best surprise was one I waited for from early in this book. Finally it came true, and I loved it!

Fantastic fun!

Had me hooked from the beginning with the reintroduction of some old friends. Try not to smile as the famikt navigates through this sci-fi adventure.

Worth listening to

Any additional comments?

The story isn't bad but doesn't offer up the same kick ass action and technology as the first couple of books. By default it cant focus on technology since (SPOILER ALERT) its NOT ALLOWED to be used for the majority of the book. /sigh
So basically Scalzi takes the greatest aspect of the series and right off the bat he comes up with a story line that allows him to completely exempt if from this book.

Great Read

Books 1&3 finish the story. Now starting book 2 & on to complete series. Good plot and entertaining. Great writing which kept my attention day to day. Can't wait I go see how the storyline gets wrapped up.

Zah-lard

Other than mispronounced names, beautiful story and execution! Eloqution and cadence were extraordinary. Bravo to John and the narrator.

It is a different kind of book

I did not enjoy tgis book as much as the previous ones, but I think iy was a decent ending to the saga(I hope).
it was a nice surprise to see a more evolved type of story, not so much violence and more characters and world development.

Still I think it is the weakest book of the saga.
