Publisher's Summary

From acclaimed director and producer Kieth Merrill comes an epic, high fantasy saga and the quest to fulfill a prophecy.

A thousand years ago, the Navigator crossed the great deep in ships lit with 16 stones touched by Oum'ilah, the God of Gods. Over time the stones were scattered, and a prophecy arose declaring that a "child of no man" would gather them again, obtain immortality, and reign forever as god and king of Candelarr. Two religious groups have sprung up around the prophecy, each with its own champion.

The sorceress of the cult of she-dragon has chosen Drakkor, a warrior and mercenary. After surviving a series of rigorous tests to prove his worth, he is given one of the stones and begins his quest to fulfill the prophecy. He swears to return all 16 stones to the sorceress, but the truth is he will let nothing stop him from claiming immortality for himself.

The Oracle of Oum'ilah has placed his faith in Ashar, a young postulant studying the Way of the Navigator on the Mountain of God. But when Ashar discovers he is a direct descendant of the Navigator himself, the Oracle reveals that it is his destiny to fulfill the prophecy and reunite the 16 stones for good. But he must hurry before Drakkor claims the stones and corrupts them.

Meanwhile, miles away, a slave named Ereon Qhuin dreams of freedom. Abandoned at birth, his only possession is a strange stone that his mentor, the blacksmith Rusthammer, promises is the key to Qhuin's destiny and freedom.

A mercenary, a postulant, and a slave - which one is truly the child of prophecy?

    "All Together Good"

As usual Tim Gerard Reynolds brought the characters to life flawlessly keeping the story flowing even at it's slower moments. The story was good if not a little slow from time to time, definitely one of the better books I've found on audible.

    "Good story. Ended abrupt."

The story concept was interesting. Narration by the T. J. Reynolds was superb as usual. I had to rewind many times to keep track of the different characters. Even though I know this is the first installment of the series, it ended abruptly, just when you got all the back stories of the main characters. I will however, listen to the following books when available.

    "VERY SLOW READ"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I really thought that people were exaggerating or semi joking about what a slow book this is but turns out they were dead on. Its a shame because it seems like it would be a great story. This left me feeling like this story should have been shortened into a chapter as the intro to the epic style fantasy that I was expecting because the amount of story actually covered versus the amount of time this book took was absurd. I really wanted to like this book because the story seems like it would be an intriguing one but when you're 3/4 of the way finished still waiting for the story to start exasperation with the author and the entire book sets in.
Tim Gerard Reynolds does a great job as usual.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    yes, great job as always

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    NO

    "this sucks"

I'll keep this simple of the hundreds of books I've listened to this is by far the worst. It's just a massive info dump of several people shuffled together like a stack of cards. It's long winded tedious and frustrating. It's a giant book of prologue. the only good is Reynolds but for all of his excellence not even he could save this story.

"Game of Thrones.. No story, all character building"

This may eventually be a good series in about 10 more books after all the characters are finally introduced. Entertaining, but better to help you sleep.

    Story
"Too much Tell not enough Show"

I don't know if it's just because I was listening to the book rather than reading it, but this story did not have enough action to pull me in. I will be honest, however, and admit that I didn't listen to the whole thing, which is a rarity for me when it comes to books. I try to always finish even when I don't like it.
I also am not a fan of the narrator. In my opinion his voice is too dull. He does good with dialogue, but there was very little of that in this book, at least from what I listened to.
That said, I figure if a book was good enough to get published, then there must be an audience for it out there. I'm just not in it. Thus the rating of 3 stars.

    Story
    "Unfortunately it is just boring"

I stuck with it until the end and nothing happens. the entire book is world building for about 6 or 7 characters. The few things that happen are not even interesting. the author is relying on the "ooo isn't it such a mystery!" effect and at the end of the book you are not interested anymore. It was so disinteresting that I struggled to finish it. I reread 3 books in between it was so bad. This is my first ever one star review. Just because someone writes a story doesn't make it good.
