    Great Classic-Bad Production

I loved the story, but the dramatazation was horrible. I would have rather just had it read. I had to fast forward it sometimes especially through the dragon part to keep from laughing!

    Chopped story excellent performance

Despite an excellent performance this version has cut out all the detail that makes Tolkien’s original delightful. You will know the basic plot but miss the suspense and excitement.

    Not suitable for class read-along.

I knew this was abridged, but I mistakenly thought I could easily chunk what was there and what was left out and still use it in my classroom as students followed along in their books- with direction from me. That is not possible with the way this is abridged. The other unabridged audio I have, the customer favorite, is lugubrious and my students are complaining about it. I am sorry I spent my money on this.

    Enchanting

I am a slow reader and don’t have the time to sit and read a book. I had always wanted to read Tolkien’s Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and listening to the story was my best option. I was so pleased with this dramatized version of The Hobbit. I was enthralled and captivated by the performances and give this recording five stars! I can’t wait for my next credit to listen to The Lord of the Rings trilogy! Those credits can’t get here fast enough!

One Audiobook that won't rule them all

The story is obviously well know and can be enjoyable under most circumstances. The performance leaves much to be desired and gives the listener a feeling that the audio was recorded from the first round losers of American Idol.
