Publisher's summary

An expedition of groundlings from the Empire of Kish have traveled through the Three Worlds to the Indigo Cloud court of the Raksura, shape-shifting creatures of flight that live in large family groups. The groundlings have found a sealed ancient city at the edge of the shallow seas, near the deeps of the impassable Ocean. They believe it to be the last home of their ancestors and ask for help getting inside. But the Raksura fear it was built by their own distant ancestors, the Forerunners, and the last sealed Forerunner city they encountered was a prison for an unstoppable evil.

Prior to the groundlings' arrival, the Indigo Cloud court had been plagued by visions of a disaster that could destroy all the courts in the Reaches. Now, the court's mentors believe the ancient city is connected to the foretold danger. A small group of warriors, including consort Moon, an orphan new to the colony and the Raksura's idea of family, and sister queen Jade, agree to go with the groundling expedition to investigate. But the predatory Fell have found the city too, and in the race to keep the danger contained, the Raksura may be the ones who inadvertently release it.

The Edge of Worlds, from celebrated fantasy author Martha Wells, returns to the fascinating world of The Cloud Roads for the first book in a new series of strange lands, uncanny beings, dead cities, and ancient danger.

Good story.

The stories of the Raksura are great. It seemed kind of unnatural for them to be cussing when they never did before, but what do I know? It's Wells!so story.

Book 4 of the Raksura saga

The story continues. As usual wonderful. The narration at the beginning felt a bit off to me but as I listened to the other chapters it was much better. Looking forward to the follow-up to this story. I found "Don't make me wake my mother "
one of the best lines in the story. Still smile every time I think of it.

Excellent latest entry in the Raksura series!

I absolutely loved this book. Martha Wells always conjures up stories that draw you in and are unpredictable right through to the end, with lots of well developed characters and intrigue. Christopher Kipiniak does a great job of bringing the story to life. Absolutely recommended reading, along with the rest of the books of the Raksura series!

Love Martha Wells & Glad I found her Writing...But I Hate Cliffhangers

The heading says it all. I first saw a Wells science fiction novel about the Murderbots, & was immediately hooked by her writing. And now I’ve tackled ( read: devoured) most of her work.

But I do hate cliffhangers & this is the first of her books that really did end on a total cliffhanger.

That said, I’m anxious for the next in the series!

Christopher Kipiniak does a great job throughout the series and juggles the multiple voices (and species) with real dexterity. Excellent performance.

New species and the Fell show up.

Really interesting talk of technology and plants. Loss of a character made me sad! Ended on a cliffhanger which I dislike.

This world keeps getting better and better

A wonderful return to The Three Worlds, with a new adventure for the Raksura court of Indigo Cloud. A shared dream, an old friend and a possible ancient enemy are the catalysts for the newest installment of the Moon, Jade & Stone show. Which is a story of discovery, exploration, tolerance and the extreme diversity of this unique world, disguised as high adventure, it doesn't get much better than this.

If you are new to this universe you can start with this book without reading the others (but I recommend you do, they are all excellent)

The second and concluding part of the story is scheduled to come out next year titled Harbors of the Sun

Cliff Hangers

I loved this book. It was another excellent adventure following Jade and Moon. Unfortunately, we basically stopped in the middle of an adventure and I have no idea when the next book is due. Extremely frustrating!
