It is one of the most interesting zombie books I've listened in 2013

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dying of the Light: Interval?

The trip back from Antartica.

Have you listened to any of Andrew McFerrin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It's the first time I listened to him, but he does an excellent job making characters distinguishable and emotional.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. Lots of tense moments though.

Great vision of the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. Totally worth it!

Ok story

Not super exciting, but held my interest. What bothered me, was that I am sure I heard the narrator either swallowing or chewing gum throughout the reading.... Especially starting around chapter 12. It was a little gross sounding at times, therefore very distracting.

A fun Zombie Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is the second book in a series titled The Dying of the light. You pick up where the first book ended with our heroes surviving after the collapse of modern society. The difference from most other zombie books is that in this series the government knew of zombies for many years prior to the global outbreak and had been preparing. You follow a team of specialist as they survive in underground shelters and try to wait out the zombies before emerging to rebuild our world. As you would expect things do not go as planned. I really like the book(s) and highly recommend them. I also want to mention the author, Jason Kristopher; Jason is very involved with his readers. This communication with the author adds to the experience as Jason provides hints of upcoming additions and insights into his characters.

This is the first in the series and a must read.

Did Andrew McFerrin do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He did OK, at times he sounded wooden.

Zombies - the biggest government cover-up in history.

Great Author and Story, Awful Audio Editing

I'm a big fan of this series and of Kristopher's writing style. The editing for the narration was terrible.

At one point, the narrator's nonverbal mouth noises were so gross I almost stopped the book.

Editing...was the audio even edited? A line of dialogue, a second or two of nothing but room noises from the narrator's studio, then finally, "she said" or, "he thought".

Big breaths right into the microphone were suddenly cut off. Random background noise that the noise gate would sometimes catch, other times not.

Female voices are difficult for men to pull off without sounding whiny. Female soldiers can't sound whiny.

A giant PLUS for the narrator: his Drybak voice.

PAINFUL! Couldn't finish had potential fell flat

Zombies? Where are they? I gotta tell you, I love all zombie / apocalypse / zombalyse books. This one was actually painful to listen to. Characters were so flat for awhile I thought Jennifer/Bill & Kim/David were the same couple! There are three types of movies/books for me. Read & can't put down, listen to while driving or working and please burn the thing. This definitely falls into the latter. I tried & tried to no avail. Sadly the author could have really done something with this one. It is supposed to be a stand alone book but you really have to read The Dying of the Light: End (which I didn't) to understand some things. You can "reference" past characters, and Tufo does this wonderfully with his new Lycon series, without "needing" them in the story. Not this one. Several characters are mentioned & despised but we don't know who they are or why. The premise is good. World ends thanks to zombies, government sets up underground bunkers for select military scientists politicians & winners of a lottery, outpost in antarctica manages to survive etc. It is about trying to survive, dealing with militia etc. The story drug out and I swear my 4 year olds books are more interesting. Dull and flat. I didn't realize there was a book 1 & it looks like that got much better reviews. I really wouldn't waste my credit on this one unless you have absolutely nothing else and are in a dentist chair trying not to pay attention to the root canal you are having!!!

if you want little common sense you are in luck

This is one of those stories that has little depth or common sense and more about a teenagers need to write himself in to a half rational story your in luck. Zombies di not have a lot of screen time.
