Publisher's Summary

A daughter vanishes. Two rogues are paid a fortune to find her. It isn't enough.

When Gabriel Winter's daughter mysteriously disappears and is presumed dead, the wealthy whiskey baron seeks revenge. Having lived in Colnora during the infamous Year of Fear, he hires the one man he knows can deliver a bloody retribution - the notorious Duster.

Ride with Royce and Hadrian as the cynical ex-assassin and idealistic ex-mercenary travel to a mysterious old-world city filled with nobles claiming descent from imperial aristocracy. Riyria's job appears easy: discover what happened to the missing duchess and, if she lives, bring her home...if not, punish those responsible. But nothing is simple in the crowded, narrow, mist-filled streets of Rochelle, where more than one ancient legend lurks.

As Excellent As Ever

One has to truly appreciate how the tales within this world stay fresh, exciting, and utterly engrossing... Imo one of the best of either Revelations or Chronicles... Particularly delightful is the stories within stories within stories layering, both obvious and not so, and how they link up and pass by one another... Foundationally a micro and macro look at the haves and have nots, flavored and accented w/ a compelling mystery, expectedly great characters old and new, and some outta the park banter and whimsy... Found myself constantly annoyed when the outside world intruded, but sunk down deeper and kept taking it in... Worth the wait!!

They're Baaack...!

What about Tim Gerard Reynolds and Michael J. Sullivan ’s performance did you like?

Tim Gerard Reynolds should be in Audible's Narrator Hall of Fame. Michael J. Sullivan takes us on another epic adventure with my favorite duo. Delving ever deeper into Ryiras history gap MJS spins gold and TGR brings it to life! Oh how I hope MJS keeps writing these I've had it on pre order for the past 5 months!!

Extraordinary, spell binding!

I have been a huge fan for years of Royce and Hadrian and this 4th book in the series is by far the best yet. Michael Sullivan's writing is exceptional and coupled with the reading prowess of Tim Gerard Reynolds, the output is a suspenseful, captivating, and at times humorous; altogether delightful. The relationship between Royce and Hadrian continues to evolve in the fourth year of their partnership in a way that remains intriguing leaving the reader wanting more. Superlatives just don't do this story justice, including the reading performance. If you are new to the Royce and Hadrian, start at the beginning. You will enjoy the journey very much.

The Boys Are Back!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this anyone who enjoys a fun fantasy. If you know and love Riyria, this is another great installment. If you don't, that's ok too as this one can be read as a standalone. And as always, Tim Gerard Reynolds does a great job with the narration.

Who was your favorite character and why?

That is a very difficult question.I love Hadrian and Royce both. They are such opposites and as such have a great working and friendship dynamic.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds and Michael J. Sullivan ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I have listened to all of them. It is equally as good as the others.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but that's because I'm not prone to that. I could count on one hand and still have fingers left over the number of books I have wanted to listen to in a single sitting. That said, I did enjoy sitting down to this one for long stretches at a time.

Any additional comments?

This was another great entry in the Riyria Chronicles. The story in and of itself is interesting. In terms of the development of the Riyria partnership- this was a great entry there as well. The boys find themselves in lots of trouble and have many a meaningful conversation in this one. This entry in the series provides an adventure while bringing Hadrian and Royce one step closer to being the men they are in the Riyria Revelations series.I would highly recommend not just this book, but the entire series to any fantasy fan.

Awesome addition

I absolutely love this series. The pace of the story moves really well and as always the narrator does a fantastic job.
My only criticism is that they could have edited the narration a bit better. You can tell based on the sound quality when they changed a line or two and it can be very jarring.

Another brilliant story by Michael J Sullivan

This was yet another perfect pairing of brilliant storytelling and masterful performance. I can't think of a better pairing of writer and performer than Sullivan and Reynold.
The world that Michael J Sullivan has created in the Riyria stories is so alive and vibrant. The characters are so well developed and really have a life of their own. Sullivan has written the story but he has done such an amazing job of it that I believe Royce and Hadrian are living and breathing somewhere.
I highly recommend buying this book and all the other books in this series. I love that each book can be read independently of the others, other than the original trilogy. Each story is fully developed and complete. This is another perfect fantasy adventure appropriate for all audiences, parental discretion always advised.

Standalone Adventure You Won't Want to Miss

If you are already a fan of Riyria then I just want you to know that this book stands up to the same level of quality and entertainment that you know and love. There are some easter eggs for fans who have read Riyria Revelations and the First empire novels.

Let me give you some teasers though: Unicorns, polka dots and gargoyles.

Timothy Gerard Reynolds is as always wonderful.

If you are new to the adventures of Royce and Hadrian then you are in for a treat. Although this is the tenth adventure with this duo, it can be enjoyed as a standalone adventure. You do not need to have read any of the other books in the series in order to enjoy this story.
If you enjoy mystery, adventure, conspiracies, banter and fantasy then you are in the right place. The story is tightly paced. The jokes land. The action had me on the edge of my seat and the climax was truly epic.

What more could you ask for?

If you like them then you can read about the formation of Riyria in Chronicles starting with The Crown Tower or read the adventures in publication order and begin with The Crown Conspiracy. You can enjoy it either way without missing out on anything.
