Publisher's summary

The Directives is Book 8 of Joe Nobody's widely acclaimed series Holding Their Own.

A leaderless, exhausted federal government is pulling out of Texas, leaving nine million survivors of the apocalypse to fend for themselves.

In an attempt to fill the void, the Alliance of West Texas prepares to step in. The ruling council establishes five directives; Energy, Agriculture, Transportation, Communications and Security.

Follow Bishop, Terri and their friends as they struggle to implement these priorities and save millions of lives threatened by anarchy and famine.

Directives is a collection of three novelettes that take the listener along on a fast paced, action packed adventure through the post-collapse Texas landscape. New heroes will emerge, and old friends may fall.

Another Amazing story.

It is a bittersweet addition to this saga. The loss of endearing characters, and the rebuilding of society, earmarks the end of toe to toe fighting against evil groups and bands of outlaws. Guess I'll just start over from the beginnjng.

This book delivers great new twist

By book 8 its sometimes heard to keep up the excitement, as the characters are getting closer to rebuilding. Joe nobody however, does it with the great skill. Taking the story to new locations, introducing new characters, and even more challenging situations.

I'm very happy the narrator has gone back to the previous books, yes people find the chimes annoying. I appreciate the definitive jump to a new character p.o.v. Or new location.

Good story - so-so reader

The story as always was good, though it seems that Bishop and Terri are super human, close calls every other chapter yet they always survive.

The reader is ok, amazing compared to the previous episode. However, he should never, ever attempt an accent again, they were painful to hear. And every conversation or comment doesn't end in an exclamation point. The cadence and tone in the character speaking is always exactly the same, and the women especially have a sort of chiding note that gets grating.

Good Story

Highly enjoyable story. Good narration, though the voice is so strong he has a difficult time with feminine characterizations. The random sound effects in these later books is distracting and unnecessary. Also, it seems every book has a different narrator. some are quite good. Others would be better suited to a career as a mime.

Bishop better check six, Terri is becoming the real power center.

All said, read and enjoy. It's thrilling and laced with highs and lows that will keep you looking for a quiet spot to listen. I suggest a long, solo drive.

Dialogue

Not Mr. Nobody's strong suit. Again the voice characterization by the narrator leaves much to be desired. But if you are this far into the series, you must have become tolerant of such performances and become engaged with the somewhat two dimensional characters. I want Mr. Nobody to finish the story.
