Publisher's Summary

Claire Danvers has her share of challenges---like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, dealing with the homicidal girls in her dorm, and above all, finding out that her college town is overrun with vampires.

On the up side, she has a great roommate (who tends to disappear at sunup) and a new boyfriend named Shane, whose vampire-hunting dad has called in backup: cycle punks who like the idea of killing just about anything. Now a fraternity is throwing its annual Dead Girls' Dance and---surprise!---Claire and her equally outcast best friend, Eve, have been invited. When they find out why, all hell is going to break loose. Because this time both the living and the dead are coming out---and everybody's hungry for blood.

"You have to read the 1st book to understand this 1"

I have been struggling to grasp the plot and characters in this book when I realized it is a second in the series. I am going to download the first book now in hopes to better enjoy the story.

"Not as good as Vampire Academy"
What did you love best about The Dead Girls' Dance?

I liked that the storyline. I also like it that the author used the same narrator for all of her series. It's basically a pg rated – tween version of Vampire Academy. I like it that the storyline really changes between books. The “love Interest” quandry is between a 16 year old college freshman and her 18 year old male roomate. So, they are determined not to go past 2nd base. No blood and gore in this series. It really doesn't get into how they get their blood (other than the unmentioned college kids disappearing). We find a new main character and this book sets up well for book 3. I never reached a point where, “I couldn't put it down.” Nor were there any places I bookmarked, like I did in the Vampire Academy. The character descriptions didn't really give me a good mind's eye as to what the characters looked like other than general descriptions ie “blonde and blue eyes- I couldn't take my eyes off of him.” I had a hard time buying into the characters, this might be done on purpose, since I feel that the audience is tween. I bought book 3 and 4. 3 is much better than book 2.

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Holloway’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I like her performance, but her man voice really cold be better.

"I love the story, a little iffy on narrator."

the narrator's voice can be really nasally and hard to listen to. once you get past that it's a great young adult book.

    "Not too bad fictional work"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Dead Girls' Dance to be better than the print version?

I think the audio version is better.

If you’ve listened to books by Rachel Caine before, how does this one compare?

I think the first book was better, but this one was all right.

What does Cynthia Holloway bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Cynthia Holloway is an asset to the book. She makes the book come alive.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really, but it did manage to keep my interest. It left me wondering what is going to happen in book 3.

    Any additional comments?

This book is a bit unique. It reminds me of of the TV show "Being Human". Clean, but interesting fiction. Adult and Teens would enjoy this book.

    "Claire still rocks!"

    Publisher: NAL Jam
    Purchased: Purchased from Amazon

What I Loved: Claire continues to be such a unique character for a YA Novel. She is growing stronger, less mousy, and you start to get the impression that she is important to the vampires of Morganville. This book continues the story quite nicely! You learn more about Shane, Micheal, and Eve and by the end you know that our awesome foursome have a lot to deal with in Morganville.

What I Liked: Usually it is the romantic elements of YA that make me go ICK because they are so angsty. However, Shane and Claire just kind of fall into each other in a very sweet way. Eve and Micheal too, there is not alot of angst and yet you still get that none of their love journeys will be simple. It is so refreshing that I just want to hug Rachel Caine for presenting it that way!

Complaints: I did not really have any with this one.

Why I gave it a 3 (on goodreads): This is more like a 3.5! This was such a fun fast read that probably would have gotten a 4 but I wanted it to be a little longer (never a bad thing)!

Who I would recommend it too: This is great for YA PNR readers and I would say PNR readers that liked the Vampire Academy.
