Publisher's Summary

The Trisolarian fleet has left their home world and will arrive in four centuries' time. But the Sophons and their extradimensional emissaries are already here. This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a last-ditch defence that grants four individuals almost absolute power to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection.

Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.

Forces you to reflect

A great piece of work that forces you to reflect about humanity, science, space and all of it.

A gem

This is the kind of book you always hope for when you open up that first page. This was the book I never knew I needed. A classic outside of the western culture bubble where I usually find my reading material. I was so glad that I had the opportunity to read this. This was a rarity. Exceptionally clever, thrilling, a single book exploding with enough ideas and ambition to rival even the longest fantasy series out there.

An epic which reflects the humanity

Liu Cixin has a theory on cosmic-sociology, which cover military, history, economy and technology, and may be the greatest threat to humanity.

Brain candy

This book is as good as previous of the trilogy, full of ideas to think of, but also with a good story flow. Highly recommended.

Where is the third book in this trilogy?

I really enjoyed this and the three body problem. However I can't find the third book on audible which is very frustrating. What's the issue audible? I wouldn't have bothered getting these books if I knew I couldn't listen to the whole trilogy.

long winded but just about enjoyable

took a while to get used to the new narrator, but he did a better job all told. pretty heavy going for me, but had to see where the story led.

Very smart and consistently unpredictable

This is what science fiction should be. I loved every chapter of it. Marvellous improvement over the previous book, which was already great. The characters are much more well-written, the plot constantly keeps you on the edge, the scale progressively gets more enormous.

The narration is top-notch. Would absolutely recommend.

An excellent part two but ..,

I enjoyed this and thought it an excellent sequel to the first book, and well read too.

My only issue is that the final instalment is not available to Audible’s UK customers despite already being on offer to those in the US.

What’s the problem Audible? When will book three be available to order in the UK? You surely don’t expect us to have to subscribe to the US service in order to complete the series?

Excellent listen

I loved this book, perhaps even more than the first part. Unfortunately Audible does not have the third party of the series for us Europeans, luckily a few of their competitors do (like Kobo books or Google play books), so I suggest that others go there to find it.

Hard science fiction at its best

if you are a fan of Asimov this is a really good book to read. I had not heard of the author until reading the first two books in this trilogy and so had no idea these books existed, I'm now looking forward to finishing the trilogy and seeing what the Fate of humanity is in this world. there are a mix of characters that it can take some getting used to but overall the story is the winner here. This has made me think differently about the search for extraterrestrial life and if we ever do find any I'm going to dig a hole..

huge, satisfying epic

.. and this is only book two.! A real y satisfying piece of hard SF, bulging with original ideas. Arguably a bit slow in.places (the audio makes this worse) but ultimately building to an epic conclusion. The Chinese milieu is a refreshing change too. How on earth- or wherever- will this be topped in book3.? Give the author a Hugo already.

A great second book

A fantastic extension to the Three Body Problem. An brilliantly constructed story. Can wait to start for final in the series.

The narrator is even growing on me.

Sweeping near-future Sci- Fi

Epic in scope and richly developed characters add to a swashbucklingly believable sci-fi plot that had me binging to finish.

Even better than the first book

This book is the pinnacle of hard sci-fi. The ideas are revolutionary, the creation is unique, and Bruno Roubicek is a fantastic narrator, well suited to the novel.

Read it if you liked The Three Body Problem. I look forward to listening to the third book.

A very different Scifi book

Not the most gripping story overall, but it is unique and gives you lots to think about. Best read in short bursts.

Solid narration.

I do feel like some aspects of the story are slightly bent out of place due to the fact that it has been translated from Chinese. It doesn't harm the overall story, but it can make individual pages less enjoyable.

Love this book

If you could sum up The Dark Forest in three words, what would they be?

Amazing sci-fi world that will surprise you every page

Who was your favorite character and why?

Luo Ji - because he had the most different vision.

Have you listened to any of Bruno Roubicek’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Love his voice.
