New York Times best-selling October Daye faerie series

Hugo Award-winning author Seanan McGuire

Things are slow, and October "Toby" Daye couldn't be happier about that. The elf-shot cure has been approved, Arden Windermere is settling into her position as Queen in the Mists, and Toby doesn't have anything demanding her attention except for wedding planning and spending time with her family.

Maybe she should have realized that it was too good to last.

When Toby's mother, Amandine, appears on her doorstep with a demand for help, refusing her seems like the right thing to do...until Amandine starts taking hostages, and everything changes. Now, Toby doesn't have a choice about whether or not she does as her mother asks. Not with Jazz and Tybalt's lives hanging in the balance. But who could possibly help her find a pureblood she's never met, one who's been missing for over 100 years?

Enter Simon Torquill, elf-shot enemy turned awakened, uneasy ally. Together, the two of them must try to solve one of the greatest mysteries in the Mists: what happened to Amandine's oldest daughter, August, who disappeared in 1906.

This is one missing person case Toby can't afford to get wrong.

...in limbo

I enjoy the October Daye series, and was delighted when I discovered the 11th book.

To me the ending too unfinished. I don't want to series to end but this 11th book left me hanging too much..

I don't know how this series keeps getting better.

But it does!!!!! These are truly some of my favorite books I have ever read and this one just ups the ante. Seanan Mcguire makes this world and these characters become part of your life. Mary Robinette Kowal then brings the writing off the page in an incredible way.

Fantastic book!

I have loved this series from the start. This book really illustrates how far the characters have come in that time. October has grown so much as a character, and that growth turns around and smacks the reader.

The narrator is of course fantastic. I love her ability to make me forget it's all one reader. Each character has a distinct voice and sound.

Mother From Hell and the Start of a Redemption

As always, an outstanding book from one of my favorite authors. This one is heavy with character development for Amandine and Simon.

The more I learn about Amandine, the more violence I want to do to her. It was bad enough in the earlier books when she was presented as a neglectful mother, who blamed October for the loss of her human husband and didn't bat an eye when October ran away to live on the streets with other Changelings. But in this book Amandine is even more emotionally abusive, cruel and capricious.

Simon on the other hand, who was originally presented as a basic ''bad guy'' who we didn't have a lot of info on, is really fleshed out in this book. We learned a few books ago that he was trying to ''save'' October by turning her into a fish but I really got to like Simon in this book and felt sorry for him at times. The Road to Hell and all that.

The ending made me tear up and I hope Simon is able to complete his redemption by the end of this series.

We also get to see Pixies, and that a good turn is never forgotten.

I still love Mary Robinette Kowal as a narrator, her accents are the reason why I listen instead of read this series!

Never fails to enthrall

Seanan and in turn Toby and the rest of her family never fails to enthrall. This latest installment continues to build on and pay off a wondrous world and depth of characters.

Wow!

The narrator is awesome giving different speech patterns and voices to the various characters. And reflects the emotion within the story as well. it's really a joy to listen to. it's hard to turn it off because I need to do other things.

Why?!

Why doesn't she just go fey all the way? Then no one could do these things to her anymore!

October Daye BK 11-Great continuation

Excellent addition. October Daye series is one I wait for the newest episode to appear annually.

October, being who she is, is off defending what is hers--her friends, her home, her family. By the light of a candle, with Toby's sidekick, Quentin, and Simon Torquill (of all the fae), awaken from elf-shot, are the threesome on the search for October's long lost sister August. Amandine, one of the last of the Firstborn, are holding Jazz and Tybalt's lives as hostage to convince October to do everything she can to get August back to her mother.

As you can see--nothing much could go wrong here--easy---NOT!

Great job as always to Mary Robinette Kowal, narrating. As soon as I hear your voice I know I'm back in October's world again. Applause to your proformance.
