Publisher's summary

Rising from her humble beginnings as a lost orphan, Lia is summoned to be Muirwood Abbey’s protector and special guardian for Ellowyn Demont, the lost heir of the fallen kingdom of Pry-Ree. After the death of the ruthless king at the battle of Winterrowd, the great Aldermaston and Abbey leader calls on Lia to use her mystical talents to save Muirwood from two new threats—a vengeful queen accusing the Abbey of her husband’s death and a deadly plague threatening to destroy the land.

Amidst the turmoil, a battle ensues, and soon Lia learns the world’s magic has begun to falter. As a blanket of dread envelops the Abbey, hopes are tested, and Lia will be forced to come to terms with a secret that will change her life forever.

the fun continues in a fast moving fantasy

Narration is very well performed, with great voice variation between players. Keeps a good story moving with excitement that is not over played.

Wholesome scifi fantasy!

Jeff Wheeler proves that you do not have to resort to foul language, explicit sex scenes, and occultic rituals to weave a great fantasy. I would put this on the same level as the J.R.R Tolkien's
books. What a great find! I have read several of his series and plan on reading them all so far they have disappointed!

good read

love the series so far and this was a good read although a rather large plot hole developed at the end. Hopefully the next book covers it.

Good read, love the language

The Muirwood series is very well written. The sentence structure feels very medieval. The characters feel like real people, and Kate Rudd does a wonderful job giving each character their own voice. I have two small complaints. There need to be longer pauses when the author jumps to another time, and the Deus Ex Machina gets a little out of hand. Beyond that, and good story wonderfully read.

I am hooked on this series.

I am hooked on this series, as well as the others by Jeff Wheeler. Kate Rudd has been a perfect match as the narrator. I felt like I was there throughout this book. I can’t wait to start the next one.

Coming of Age Story

First, I've listened to all three books in the trilogy, so this review covers all of them.

When I first read the summary for the first book I wondered why I had gotten it, but luckily it was a pleasant surprise. I'm usually not too fond of coming of age stories but this one was pretty good. The characters developments grow through the story. Even minor characters have depth to them. There's magic and action. I read some reviewers who said there was a lot of preaching and religious aspects but I didn't find it overwhelming or even really thought of this as a religious book, unlike some I've accidentally listened to. After all, the main character was raised in an Abby and the storyline is centered around them.

Lia starts out as a wretched (what we would call an orphan) in an Abby. We get to go along with her on her adventures as she discovers who she really is.

The narrator did an excellent job and added a lot to the story.

Great Read

I love the combination of Jeff Wheelers story and Kate Rudd's narration. I can't compliment Ms. Rudd enough on her being able to add depth and engage the reader so that they feel surrounded by the story, like a play, rather then just a monotone read. Thank you both for all the different series that you two have teamed up on.
