Change in voice

Loved the book again but the narrator's voice for the main character from the originally trilogy changed.

Great story

The whole series is needed to fully enjoy the back story of the characters who seem more real with each book. Not sure why the narrator had an accent some of the time for Janelle enjoy his voicing.

Always love Anne Bishop

The only thing that I didn't like was that one of the characters voices was changed from the books before. Other than that it was good.

Inconsistent voice portrayal

Was a little disappointed in the narrator using an accented voice for Lady Angeline that was completely different from how he had portrayed her in previous books. It just rubbed me wrong and spoiled being immersed in the story.

Another Gem for Bishop

I loved this story, along with the other installments that came before it. It was great to read about Lucivar,
Jaenelle, Daemon Sadi and other familiar characters with a bit of a twist on the existing trilogy. The Spooky House idea was a great addition and added a bit of whimsy to the series. But I was also a bit confused, like another reviewer, as to why John Sherian made Jaenelle sound like one of her sister Queens, Morgan - with a Celtic accent. It kind of threw me everytime she spoke. It didn't detract from the story, but struck me as a bit strange. Can't wait for the next installment and I hope, Twilight Dawn and hope that Dreams Made Flesh will be available in audiobook form.

Scottish accent??

I have read the book 3 times, and have listened to most of this series once. But in this narration Jaenelle acquired a Scottish accent, it was difficult to listen to.

read Anne Bishop's Blog about voice of Janelle

This was definitely a Halloween story. Many reviews condemn it for being such when they hoped for something of the same calibre that we had in the first 3 books. Several reviews are rough on the narrator for the Irish brogue when Janelle speaks. However, if you read AB's blog she addressed it as a mistake and was something she thought she wanted but didn't end up liking. Narrators get "direction" from the author for how the characters sound, once they hear it they may change their mind as AB did. Get past that and the assumptions that all these books are going to be as meaty as the first 3 and take it for what it is. Entertainment. This story is without pretense and is just an event in the Black Jewels realm, it is the readers that expect more than what this is. I read this many years ago and just finished listening to it. It was entertaining, not fine literature. Anne Bishop is a great author, but many times readers expect too much, and take things too seriously, this book included. Give it a listen.

Jaenelle's Voice

I love all of these books. The only thing that I didn't like was the narrator changing Jaenelle to have an accent she didn't have in any of the other books. It's the same narrator, so I don't get it. Other than that, everything was great.

Don't like the changed voice for Janelle. The rest of the book is amazing as usual.
