Publisher's summary

Laid out upon these frail leaves is a banquet of delectable misfortunes and savory tragedies. Partake of these melancholy morsels of bile and brine, of wrath and regret. Sample vintages of fermented tears and distilled blood. Lick the sharp edges of cursed blades, and nibble frail hopes set on platters of tarnished silver. Strange sorrows warp the palette of perception and bring about subtle ruin and uncanny vigor. Indulge in the filling robustness of Tainted Steel.

Twisted Tales

I wasn't sure what to expect when I requested to review this audiobook, but the description intrigued me. The audiobook is true to the description. These tales are definitely wicked and woeful, twisted and tormented, sometimes deliciously so. If you like off-beat, dark fairy tales, this audiobook is for you. I enjoyed these tales, and the narration suited the content. The delivery was well-paced and the voices matched the atmosphere of the stories.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

I've got tainted love for these tainted tales

Tainted Steel: Tales of the Weird and Woeful is a collection of short stories, just under 20 in total, that lives up to its name. The writing is great, and the stories most definitely entertain and captivate the listener. The stories are short, and this is a good thing. They come in, pack a punch, and move on so that you are ready for the next gut punch or ear twist. The writing style is sublime, and some of these stories feel like they have been around for hundreds of years, and yet they do not seem stale or as if they don't belong in the present day. Each one clocks in under 20 minutes for the most part.

Montooth is amazing. Audiobooks live and die by their narrators, and he gives this book a real flavor that plain text cannot convey. He is a fantastic reader, and his talent for weaving words that act like earworms burrowing into your mind is just plain scary. He does a phenomenal job keeping you listening.

5 Stars all around.

This was definitely weird and oddly intriguing. A short collection of dark fairy tales. It's short, but entertaining.

A collection of short stories

At first I felt lost then I realized that this was not a story but many short stories that did not connect to the other. They are interesting but not my cup of tea. They are well written and poetic even.

I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion

Just What the Subtitle Implies

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

These are strange short tales indeed, some gruesome, some fantastical, others a little bizarre. The writing is very pleasant, at times even lyrical. I could get into some of the stories better than in others, but overall a quick listening experience easy to follow even when there are many interruptions in your daily life.
The narration was also well executed, though in one instance the tone dropped so much that it came out a little mumbled. Other than that, however, it was a very pleasant interpretation.
If you like short stories and the unusual, this collection is for you.
