Publisher's summary

The embattled Republic reels from the attacks of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has marshaled the remnants of the Imperial forces and driven the Rebels back with an abominable technology recovered from the Emperor's secret fortress: clone soldiers.

As Thrawn mounts his final siege, Han and Chewbacca struggle to form a coalition of smugglers for a last-ditch attack against the empire. Leia holds the Alliance together and prepares for the birth of her Jedi twins.

Overwhelmed by the ships and clones at Thrawn's command, the New Republic has one last hope: sending a small force, led by Luke Skywalker, into the stronghold that houses Thrawn's terrible cloning machines. There a final danger awaits, as the Dark Jedi C'baoth directs the battle against the Rebels and builds his strength to finish what he has already started: the destruction of Luke Skywalker.

Anthony Daniels KILLS it again

Is there anything you would change about this book?

As with book 2, I enjoy Timothy Zahn's writing and I feel he very much captures the flavor of the Star Wars universe. Anthony Daniels narration was in my opinion nothing short of terrible. The strange inflections and tones attributed to characters was laughable and painful in spots (the way he portrays Joruus C'Baoth was horrendous). Also to add his pronunciations (such as CHIMERA being pronounced Ki-MOO-rah) really took away from the book. It was rather painful to get through, but I wanted to finish out the trilogy.

Also as with book 2 the abridgement was a bit choppy, but in this book it really felt like there were huge gaps left in the story that made it seem inplausible.

Would you ever listen to anything by Timothy Zahn again?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Anthony Daniels’s performances?

Absolutely not.

Good, but why waste time creating abridged books?

The story is ok and well performed, but I just don't understand why publishers waste time creating abridged books. By not needing to use your eyes, your reading time is greatly expanded. Abridging is a travesty to begin with - even made worst by doing it on this format...and then not even offering the unabridged version. I don't see how any abridged book can get higher than a mediocre rating.

Love the book, dislike the abridged part

This trilogy by Zahn is what brought Star Wars back into our collective conscience. Why then are his audio books abridged? I love the story, and I love being able to listen to it on my iPod at the gym, but slightly disappointed in not being able to listen to the entire work as Zahn originally penned it. It's still a good listen, even though it leaves out half the book. It would be awesome though, if there were radio drama style, unabridged, versions of his books.

This must be an abridged version

Be careful the other Thrawn trilogy books I listened to were by random house audio and over 10 hrs in length. this audio book is only 3 hrs long.

Great book but poorly preformed

Same problem with this book as I wrote for book two. It was hard to understand with his accent and too much of the book was left out. For such a great book to have so much detail left out is a crime in my opinion. I hope that this audiobook can be redone!!!!

Anthony Daniel's is a terrible narrator.

the narrator's meter is generally too fast. Many common words are repetitively mis-pronounced. The narrator has only one voice for all characters.
No storytelling skills and low knowledge of the subject make this a tough listen.

Great book awful reading

I love the Thrawn trilogy and decided to listen to it after reading it years ago. The only reason I chose this particular reading of the last command was because it was half price of the others. The performance is awful, terrible voices and the mispronunciation of so many words is annoying

Good story, but too short.

The title says it all. It was a good story, but too damn short.
