Publisher's Summary

Here is a special edition 20th anniversary release of the number-one New York Times best-selling novel that reignited the entire Star Wars publishing phenomenon - unabridged for the first time. The biggest event in the history of Star Wars books, Heir to the Empire follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia after they led the Rebel Alliance to victory in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

Five years after the Death Star was destroyed and Darth Vader and the Emperor were defeated, the galaxy is struggling to heal the wounds of war, Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting twins, and Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of new Jedi Knights.

But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor’s warlords - the brilliant and deadly Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. For this dark warrior has made two vital discoveries that could destroy everything the courageous men and women of the Rebel Alliance fought so hard to create.

The explosive confrontation that results is a towering epic of action, invention, mystery, and spectacle on a galactic scale - in short, a story worthy of the name Star Wars.

More in the Thrawn Trilogy we have. And listen to all of our Star Wars titles you can!

The story outstanding and the narration top-notch

Would you consider the audio edition of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition), The Thrawn Trilogy, Book 1 to be better than the print version?

I have yet to be blown back by the quality of the Star Wars franchise unabridged audio books. They're professional and very immersive. Thrawn's voice is exactly how I imagined it in the book. Overall, yes, I found this better than the print just for the ambient environments, sound effect, and new emotions tied with the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

R2D2 of course, but I was pleasantly surprised by Talon Card and Thrawn.

Which character – as performed by Marc Thompson – was your favorite?

Talon Card. I spent the entire book debating with myself the mystery and appeal to his guests. The voice was perfect. However, I thought the Wookies took the most work. Well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I wouldn't put down my headphones if it wasn't for sleep and work.

Any additional comments?

I express the same bias as others about Han Solo. His voice rubbed off on me towards the end of the book. Leia's voice was my least favorite female character by far, but not enough to distract me.

READ THIS BOOK!!!

Looking for Star Wars material but aren't satisfied with Disney's movies and tie in books? Looking for a book with characters that are actually likable and doesn't use made up words to describe how Tie Fighters move like a certain canon author we know *cough* Chuck Wendig *cough*? Are you looking for a version of Star Wars where the three biggest characters are still alive? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions then you are looking for Star Wars Legends and more specifically Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. Congratulations you've just taken your first step into a larger(and better)world. Heir to the Empire is a great place to start if you're looking for Legends content. Get to know the real Luke, Han and Leia instead of the pale imitations Disney gives you. Spend a credit on this book. Discover the tactical genius that is Grand Admiral Thrawn, the power mad insanity that is Joruus C'baoth, the political scheming that is Borsk Fey'lya, the mysterious charm that is Talon Karrde and the thirst for revenge that is Mara Jade. You won't be sorry, you'll never want to watch another Disney Star Wars move again and you'll be surprised to find that you're okay with that second fact. This is an excellent book so do yourself a favor and add it to your library.

Satisfied, but not blown away.

Could have done a better job with Luke's story. Being a Jedi now & restoring the Jedi order. I thought his character hadn't changed much from his Jedi training days. Princess Lea story line with the Wookiee planet was hard to make it through. Really wasn't needed. All in all I'm siked for the up coming movies. Will continue to listen to the next audible book.

The site was great. Highly expected with the Star Wars universe. Especially the Thrawn story to boot. The reader did a great job mixing in different voices and giving character and attitude to the various characters in the book.
