Publisher's Summary

He was the most powerful Sith lord who ever lived... but could he be the only one who never died?

“Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise? It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise that he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying." -Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

Darth Plagueis: one of the most brilliant Sith Lords who ever lived. Possessing power is all he desires. Losing it is the only thing he fears. As an apprentice, he embraces the ruthless ways of the Sith. And when the time is right, he destroys his Master - but vows never to suffer the same fate. For like no other disciple of the dark side, Darth Plagueis learns to command the ultimate power... over life and death.

Darth Sidious: Plagueis’s chosen apprentice. Under the guidance of his Master, he secretly studies the ways of the Sith, while publicly rising to power in the galactic government, first as Senator, then as Chancellor, and eventually as Emperor.

Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, Master and acolyte, target the galaxy for domination - and the Jedi Order for annihilation. But can they defy the merciless Sith tradition? Or will the desire of one to rule supreme, and the dream of the other to live forever, sow the seeds of their destruction?

    "Improves the prequels"

James Lucerne clearly loves Star Wars. He loves it so much, he felt he had to write a story that closes the many open loops and plot holes presented in "The Phantom Menace." The book does a nice job of providing background and detail to the muddled story Lucas told. This doesn't perfectly address each story line, neither does it overcome some of the dull characters of the prequels, but it certainly helps. Do I now care about intergalactic tariffs and trade zones? No. Do I sympathize with the tedious banking clan or techno-union? Also no. At least I now see what motivated the story. I also got background on key Jedi and Sith masters and their motivations. A worthy read. Also a great audible performance.

    "Absolutely the best"

This has been the best Star Wars audiobook I've heard, and I've listened to a lot. I just don't get tired of it at all, most audiobooks I'll listen to back to back and after the 10th time I'll get tired of it because I know the story so well. With this I've listened at least 20 times. It's something I'd recommend to a friend.

"Darkest Lords of the Dark Side !!"

My favorite of the Star Wars books for sure !! Of all of the stories, it's the one that I had trouble pausing when it was time for work. A great tale of the Sith and their Grand Plan. Loved it !!!

"endless galactic politics and name dropping."

so I'm a sucker for anything starwars also the darkside of the saga has gained me interest lately. however I have a few issues with this book. the first is the endless politics. the second being the clunky sith name dropping between the two mane characters. "have you forgotten the lesson of Darth Bane at the....blah blah blah. look, nobody talks like that not even a sith. bane is an important part of the old EU and hopefully part of the new cannon but damn the author couldn't help but pound the fan service home with this one.

I'm being harsh and it's not horrible but if you haven't listened to Tarken or Lords of the Sith and want a darkside fix go with those first. they are far stronger books

    "Made the prequels perfect"

This is the best Star Wars book I have ever read, the performance was so good it sounded like a radio show, not just a book, this book make all the prequels, especially episode 1 much better similar to how the Clone Wars animated series made episode 2&3 much better, read this book

    "Fantastic Star Wars lore!"

Captivating story, brilliant reading performance by Daniel Davis, awesome audio effects & SW music. This is precisely why I love audio books so much!

The story clarifies a lot of Darth Sidious's background and of course tells the story of Darth Plagueis, the main character, about whom Palpatine in SW ep. III says to Anakin:
"Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying."

To me this audiobook captured a real Star Wars atmosphere, it made me want to listen to it 24/7 and I wish the novel had lasted at least twice as long.
Because of it, I wanted to watch SW Episode I immediately following it, which to some would be a great feat in and of itself ;-)

In short, I highly recommend this!

"In my top ten of Star Wars book favorites."
Where does Star Wars: Darth Plagueis rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best in the Star Wars literacy greats.

What did you like best about this story?

How Palatine becomes so evil, yet true sith.

What does Daniel Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His voice commands the book with such resonance. bestowing the essence of the characters.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

True unbridled misuse of power for one`s own ends.

    Any additional comments?

Just a great book read by a true star of audio deliverer.
