Publisher's summary

Acclaimed author Lynn Flewelling brings her beloved Nightrunners series to a close - at least for now - with a thrilling novel of murder, mystery, and magic. The governor of the sacred island of Korous and his mistress have been killed inside a locked and guarded room. The sole witnesses to the crime - guards who broke down the doors, hearing the screams from within - have gone mad with terror, babbling about ghosts...and things worse than ghosts. Dispatched to Korous by the queen, master spies Alec and Seregil find all the excitement and danger they could want - and more. For an ancient evil has been awakened there, a great power that will not rest until it has escaped its otherworldly prison and taken revenge on all that lives. And only those like Alec - who have died and returned to life - can step between the worlds and confront the killer...even if it means a second and all too permanent death.

Just Blah

Loved the original books in the series. Each new edition (especially with current narrator) seems less and less substantive in scope. This one is particularly on the less epic end of the scale. Basically a fantasy/ghost based mystery. The narrator continues to offer so little that even what story there is disappoints even more. The 3 main characters have very little vocal differentiation so you're sometime not quiet sure which of the 3 are speaking.

Deeply enjoyable installment in a great series

The final installment in the Nighrunner series, Shards of Time explores yet another new part of the world-setting and takes us on a fascinating and convoluted journey. The few remaining loose ends from the previous six books are tied up nicely, but this book chiefly stands alone, almost like an exploration of what might be done with the characters now that much of the main story has been told.

That said, this largely stand-alone story is delectable and very engaging. All of our favorite characters are in fine form... and grave danger.

Adam Danoff is as good as ever, still the perfect voice for our young, frank heroes.

The Story Comes Full Circle!

Any additional comments?

I really loved how Flewelling brought the series full circle. The characters have all had realistic growth over the 7 books and now we get to see them settle into their lives. Good plot line and good resolution!

Another excellent adventure!

A well written, well narrated journey through the supernatural with our favorite Foursome back at it again!

Good story bad narrator.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would change the narrator. When I read it in hard copy I liked it but the narrator is bland, one voiced, and boring.

What other book might you compare Shards of Time to and why?

I liked the others in the series. And they were good to listen to because of the other narrators.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Adam Danoff?

Almost anyone. But Tim Gerard Reynolds, Bronson Pinchot, Euan Morton, Jim Dale, Ray Porter, Rob Inglis, Raymond Todd....these are all excellent narrators. I am sure there are many more.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Please note that I will continue listening since I know the book is well written. It's just that the narrator is phoning it in.

End of an Era

The end of a journey! I absolutely adored this series from beginning to end. Everything that happened between Seregil & Alec was a joy to experience. Their friendship, the love & passion that developed between them, and all the adventures they jumped into. They fought necromancers, demons & ghosts. They were poisoned, beaten, and killed. They thwarted a dark god of death, stopped a political coup, aided the end of war & even managed to undo the start of a plague! So much happened in this series more than I can fit into this review, it was exhilarating & wild but had its tragic moments too.

This last book in the series gave me a taste of the future while settling the past. I wanted it to be longer and go on for hours. My only critique is that it was over too soon and I want nothing more than a secret 8th book to pop up magically in the near future.

The only thing I can really say is Luck in the shadows… and in the light.

Good story and great series

The plot was deep and rich, filled with everything they came before In a series that Is defined by its mythology. In the End, I think the series is worth a read or listen

a series worth loving

honestly I don't know what to say about this book series let alone this book that won't spoil something. But what I can say is that I hope that Lynn Flewelling can read these.
My wife introduce me to this series not long ago through Tamirs triad. And after finishing it I started in the nightrunner series ad fast as I could. I have fallen in love with the world, characters and history. I hope more stories come to this world. I don't know if more stories will be told in this world. imbut I would love to see them.
I play a large number of table too games. And feel like I am hearing a great long lasted roleplay world. the history feels so rich. And would love to see books such as histories or role-playing supplements that contain some of this spark.

lastly I want to say thank you Lynn Flewelling for the great adventure you have given

Excellent!

This book follows along with the rest in the series: captivating from cover to cover. The narration is excellent! I was worried about how the series would end, as it is my favorite, but I am so happy with how it turned out!
