Publisher's summary

A strange phenomenon occurs out of nowhere: an omnipresent light that engulfs the entire planet. Humanity is forever changed by the light. NOAA and NASA are mystified.

People soon face a new threat; even the smallest, most insignificant injury will no longer heal. Doctors cannot stop it. The sick do not die. They change.

They are Scabs.

As the survivors flee, it becomes clear there's no place to run, and time is short. The topography of the planet begins to change. Devastation and destruction ensue on a massive scale.

Scott and Warren Walsh are brothers. Over 1,000 miles separate them from one another. Something about them is special, and places them in a category with only 0.2 percent of the world's population.

Only one thing gives Scott, Warren, and others like them hope against the Scabs...The Gemini Exception.

A NEW SERIES TO LOVE!!

I usually only stick with zombie novels. But having read Eric's previous work I decided to give this book to try. I was not disappointed. It drew me in from the first sentence and left me wanting more at the LAST sentence...MUCH MORE!! Once again, Thank you Mr Shelman!! ❤

Chilling and itchy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would and already have. This is by far one of the best audiobooks I've listened in a long time. The story broken down from 2 separate points of views was great.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Scabs: The Gemini Exception?

When they realize what happens inside the scab cocoons after they've opened.

Which scene was your favorite?

The end when the scabs ...(dont want to spoil it)... and then it ends. Leaves you with such anticipation for the next book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The love between the twins needing to get connected again.

Any additional comments?

Love zombie/apocalyptic thrillers and this one is smart, unique, and makes you feel for the characters and victims better than a lot that came before. Also since zombie plagues have been beating with a dead stick its fun and thrilling to have something new, unexpected and as I mentioned before chilling this time around. I felt itchy in the car thinking about scabs a lot. Great work Eric A. Shelman and looking forward to the sequel.

Unique!

This was such a unique and engrossing read, that it was really hard to put down! I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this, but I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.

Plot wise, it was slow to start but still kind of gripping. Twin brothers, Scott and Warren live miles apart but have a passion for carrier pigeons, and that's how they communicate. So when a weird light appears suddenly infusing everyone and everything with it, they know something isn't right. Both decide that they need to meet up and try to survive this strange new world. It only get's worse, however, when people stop healing! From the littlest to the largest wound, nobody can heal. Many people lose their lives but those that don't have a wound they can't heal, that is until, the light goes away! Then people with injuries start scabing over, but it doesn't stop there, the scab keeps going until it encases the person totally. People are freaking out and trying not to get the slightest touch. Eventually, the scabs start opening and what comes out is a thing of nightmares! Can the brothers reunite?

So ya, this was such a unique post apocalyptic read. I really enjoyed the plot, I really liked the characters, which there weren't many of!! I really liked the idea of the twins being immune to the scabs. I even really enjoyed the fact that the narrator was the author himself. So overall I truly enjoyed this, so why not 5 stars?? Well, I think I found that something was missing from it. I'm not too sure what, but something stopped me from not loving this! Maybe it was the fact that I didn't really connect with one of the brothers. I found him to be self absorbed and not really nice!

Anyway, this is a unique and thrilling read and I will definitely check out more by this author.

As for the narration. I usually shy away from authors reading their own work as most of the time they fail, but Eric A. Shelman did a really good job!! He had enough tones for his characters though I did find that the brothers sounded the same at times. He was easy enough to listen to and was clear and concise.

Zombies on the Wing

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

A cliff hanger ending that promises a part 2.

Any additional comments?

There are a lot of birds in this book. Pigeons are not my favorite birds, but they play a large part as the main characters are into homing pigeons. I suppose they'd be good as a back up food source in a zombie apocalypse. The author introduces some new twists to the zombie genre, but I had a hard time with the characters. They didn't seem to be very compelling, the dialog was off, or I'm on zombie overload.
All in all this is a decent book with some surprises, but I'm not on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen in the next installment.

Scabs Hurt!

Story process is very slow but the story is great. I would have liked a faster paced progression. Into the book halfway before any action takes place. Yea I get that we want to know the characters but it would have been better for me to get to action before it did. Not hard to put the book down in between stories of the two brothers Warren and Scott because there was not that much action. Pigeons are new and interesting addition wondering if they really have anything to do with the story?
Loved the scabs and the evolvement - new twist which was great! Almost to the end of this book and don't know if I will get the next one.

Great!

New twist on an apocalyptic novel. I must say this author has a great imagination and all his series I’ve read are excellent. In this one everyone but identical pairs of siblings turn into alien type creatures. The on con on this book is the narrator’s southern accent is off, but who cares.

Worth the Credit!

Very creative original plot.
Entertaining, interesting, well written great story.
I was hooked from the start. I didn’t want to stop listening. I was left wanting more when the book ended. Please say this will be a series.

The story is told through the dual POV's of twin brothers Scott and Warren Walsh. How each deals with the events that are unfolding and what they each endure on their journey to reunite in a safe location. You can't help getting attached to all of the characters in the story.

This is the first book I have read by Eric A. Shelman and I'm sure I will be reading more in the future. Great story. My past experiences with authors narrating their own books has not been a good one. Mr. Shelman was an exception. He did a great job with the narration.

Very good!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because I enjoyed all aspects of the story. There were times when the book was a bit slow but I understood it was an effort so we could to get to know and grow to like each character, and I did. Because of the way the story ended, there is a need for a second book and I hope it comes soon. If there isn't a second book coming soon...I will NOT be pleased.

What did you like best about this story?

It kept my interest and that is not easy to do.

Which character – as performed by Eric A. Shelman – was your favorite?

All of them. Mr. Shelman gave a great performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A few but I'll leave that for each reader to discover for themselves.

Any additional comments?

Get going on the second book quick!
