Smart, well-written, first rate.

This is a wonderful series for those who love good historical fiction written by someone with a deep knowledge of the past who cares about getting the details right

Story within a Story with No Conclusion

After enjoy the first 3 books of this series, I found this one frustrating on a number of different levels. Half of the book is a flashback to an event 18 years earlier that is interspersed throughout this book. Many times the reader is required to be paying close attention or you don't get the transition. Then the main story is left unfinished. After 14 1/2 hours of listening there should be some conclusion. Knowing that the next book is unavailable, makes it even worse.
