Publisher's Summary

A Science Fiction Dystopian Action Romantic Journey. Rebel Lexis: Sci-fi/Dystopian Masterpiece Pits Maverick Spaceship Captain against Seductive, Alluring & Possibly Deadly AI Computer System. Masterfully crafted by Paul Alan, the first volume in the celebrated new 'Rings of Polaris' series fuses Science Fiction, dystopian fiction, and action romance - in an adventure giving Arthur C. Clarke a run for his money. Listeners are invited to strap in with Captain Jason Bjorn on a mission across the vast wasteland that was once earth. But Bjorn's white-hot love for a virtual reality companion and the constant sexual advances from his onboard AI computer system are about to cause a distraction that could leave him dead...

While nobody will deny science fiction's timeless popularity, both listeners and critics are currently crying out for wholly-unique new narratives that don't succumb to recycling of the "same old" concepts. Thankfully, Paul Alan has stepped up to the plate with gusto, serving up a compelling new series that melds traditional sci-fi hallmarks with palm-sweating romance. Sexual encounters with virtual reality companions, that is! Rebel Lexis may not follow convention, but Alan's creation is rapidly building up a following among those who fell in love with Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion and the groundbreaking 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's easy to see why.

Synopsis: Jason Bjorn just wants to do his job and captain his ship, but when his employer - The Polaris Corporation - sends him on a trek across the wastelands of Earth where he encounters treachery, an ancient cult, and secrets that strike at the heart of Polaris' control over the planet. Soon, fighting to stay alive is the least of his worries as he finds himself at the center of a conflict that could change everything with nobody on his side but SOFIA, the seductively independent operating system that runs his ship.

A very futuristic world that is meticulously authentic and rivetingly accessible, down to the constant banter Jason engages in with Sofia, who is a computer program. A very good sci fi noble

Not what I expected.

Narration was slow but I liked the story. Past memories and futuristic technology of AI love connection.

not great.

I don't think this book is great, as I'm listening, I just keep thinking that this book was obviously written by a man, and from the sound of it a man that is a "gamer." It reminded me of a man's fantasy woman and world.
I was getting lost in the details that were not necessary or important. the story seemed slow and uninteresting. I couldn't relate to or understand the characters.
the only good thing I can find to say, is the narration was good, she did a great job with the voices and the complete type voice was good. I would give her work another listen, just nothing by this author.

Rebel Lexis

What does Valerie Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Yes.

The narration was the best part of the audiobook.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes, of Sofia's character.

If she was made into the leading character it would have added depth to the story.
