Publisher's summary

Marooned in the dark.

Alone. Hunted. Faced with terrifying magic that's waking in her blood.

Lilik, a 17-year-old from a port town slum, already knew how to suffer. This expedition was supposed to offer a way out. A chance to drag her family out of poverty. The night-drenched shores of the volcanic island, Ioene, promised mystical power. Salvation.

Lilik didn't count on the eruption that destroyed the expedition's hopes.

She didn't count on being blamed for the disaster.

Now, the kiss of the sun is a distant memory. No rescue is coming. If Lilik is to find her way home, she must first find a way to survive.

Nightforged begins the heart-pounding Shattering of the Nocturnai series.

Almost a 5 star rating

This is a fantastic book, not the best book by Carrie Summers that I've listened to, but I am really invested in these characters. This is shaping up to be a great series, though if she pulls a George R. R. Martin on us and kills a central character I will be crushed. They all have an amazing amount of depth.

My one criticism is that it got a little muddy in the middle of the book.

really good BUT...

there's a romance that's only a tiny fraction better than that of the Twilight movies. any time the romance comes in, immersion goes out and once the romance is over the story pulls you right back in.
