Publisher's summary

"People die. Everyone knows that. I knew it intimately as everyone in my life died thanks to my one seemingly harmless mistake. I'd brought down Heaven, lifted up Hell, and set the world on fire, all due to one slip of the memory. I forgot the pizzas...." Caliban is a dead man. The Vigil, a group devoted to concealing the paranormal from humanity, has decided Cal has stepped out of the shadows once too often, and death is the only sentence. They plan to send a supernatural assassin into the past to take down the younger, less lethal Cal. But things change when The Vigil makes one last attempt on Caliban's life in the present - and end up destroying everyone and everything he cares about. Now, Cal has to save himself, warn those closest to him, and kill every Vigil bastard who stole his world. But if he fails, he and everyone in his life will be history....

Loved it.

I hate that it ends on an unending cliff hanger. I wish the ending could/would be published.

MacLeod Andrews is phenomenal, of course he is!

Any additional comments?

I'm not sure about this story. The previous 9 books were amazing and I never found myself confused within the stories nor did I feel as though information was repetitive.

Unfortunately, this story begins after the big event happened, which is a shame because being in the actual moment with Cal and those he cared about whould have been much more entertaining. There was so much repetitive information (about the past, future, each character) just told in different ways, the mini stories for events that took place in Cal's life in the future was distracting, and with so many empty threats from every single character, I found myself desperate to re-listen to books 2 - 9 to remind myself why I love this series.

I felt so lost, confused, and empty at the ending of this story and I've never felt that way about any of Rob Thurman's stories that I've read or listen to, so I'm holding out hope that book 11 will reflect the awesomeness of the previous books.

It was great to have Cal, Robin, and Niko together again. And, once the action started it was great but that was far and few between all the narration (most, repeated information told in different ways).

Starts Slow, Finishes Strong

Narrator:: This is my first Cal book on Audio, the rest of the series I've read paperback versions. I was very impressed MacLeoad Andrews. I had forgotten how "whiny" the younger version of Cal was, and there was a very distinctive voice difference between young Cal and older Cal.I also enjoyed Robin's voice.

Story: Beginning was slow and kind of rambling, making it hard on the audio version to tell what was going on. Once I understood what was happening, the book took off and ended on an amazing cliffhanger. I also had a fan-girl moment over the slight cross-over with Ms. Thurman's other series in the same universe. I listened to that entire scene a few times, it was just perfect.

Overall: This series isn't slowing down or getting bogged down by it's own history as sometimes long series tend to do. Cal is powerful but still struggles with both internal and external conflicts. Family and sacrifice is still a prevalent theme. While not my favorite book in the series, it does stand strong and is a good addition to the universe.

Didn’t Finish

Really enjoyed the series. Because other reviews tell us this ended on a cliffhanger (that never ends because the author quit writing the series) I found myself happier leaving while imagining that things work out rather than read to the bitter unending end.

Do not miss the action and the insanity!

Andrews brings the characters alive. Thurman's writing again gives you a story that has soul and comedy mixed with insanity. Best one yet

Give me more

I love all of Rob Thurman's books, but my favorite are the Cal Leandros books, and this one is the best yet! I have already read and re-read it several times and listened to it on Audible at least 3 times, as well. Cal back in time with his younger self and, currently younger than him, big brother, Niko brings in more depth and emotion to all of the characters. The irony of Cal being the one in the teacher/mentor/responsible person role is well delivered. The ending was a great cliffhanger that has me holding on by my barely there fingernails as I wait most impatiently for the next book and the continuation of the story.

Wow, just WOW!

Let me start by saying that I have been a long standing fan of Rob Thurman's books, and I mean ALL of them. I have hard copies and if available, Audible versions of them. So, I know what genius this writer has. Always perfect characters, with DEPTH. Because of this, I don't just read about these characters, I KNOW them. This particular series I will have to say is my favorite because I have watched them grow, struggled with them, laughed with them and cussed like a sailor on leave with them. Nevermore does not disappoint! As a matter of fact, it almost killed me! What a ride! I even forgot to take one of my kids to school on time because I couldn't wait to jump back in. For those that complained or gave low stars because they didn't like the ending, I have this to say..."HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS?!" This book could not have ended any other way. The ending to me means that there is more of Rob's genius to come. I'm going to patiently wait because I know I WON'T be disappointed!
So if you haven't read this series, honey, do yourself a favor and start with book one. Believe me, you'll know what I'm talking about by the time you get to Nevermore ;)

jaw dropping

This book is amazing. There are twists and turns that I was not expecting, and while several people are "gone" from this book they are still there. But a word of warning, while I absolutely love the ending of this book in fact I think it's my fovorite ending so far it is a bit of a cliff hanger. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!!
