Publisher's summary

Three bank robbers are on the run following a rather unusual heist. They decide to seek shelter for the night in a tiny, seemingly harmless town. However, the following morning they awaken to discover that the town they chose is actually some form of disturbingly cheery utopia complete with sickly sweet citizens who have the rather odd habit of breaking into perfectly choreographed song and dance numbers.

When they try to leave, they discover that getting out of this bizarre little village may not be as easy as they thought. As night begins to fall and the far more sinister side of the town begins to emerge from the shadows, they begin to realize they may not be able to escape with their lives at all.

So, sing and dance along with our heroes! Impress your friends! Creep out your co-workers! Terrify strangers on the bus! As they try to fight their way past satanic show tune singers, shotgun-happy sheriffs, monsters, and more in Musicarolina, a tale of monsters, demons, criminals, and fabulous musical numbers!

Extremely unique and entertaining

I can definitely say this book is like nothing I've listened to or read before!! It was extremely unique. The characters were fun and engaging, and the story was so creative. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The moment when the narrator did the first song (chant) by the creepy mob was the moment I knew this book was going to take me on an adventure and that I was totally hooked. It was so unlike any other narrator I've listened to. Theo Holland did an amazing job on this reading in my opinion, in fact his reading and all the unique sound effects and character voices is what took this book to a whole new level. The writing and the narration as a combined whole makes this book a must listen. I understand that they were supposed to be songs being sung....but the way it was done to me just made it that much more interesting and creepy which I loved. This is the first audio book I've heard that the narrator used so many sound effects too.....it was so cool and just made the story come to life even more. Such as the creepy mob, the CB radio the cop used, when the characters spoke in unison, etc. Amazing job and creativity as far as I'm concerned. The writer also did an amazing job not only with the overall story, but the character's charisma was just wonderful!!! I couldn't get enough of the whitty banter and sarcastic comments between the men. It just made the story. So......after all that.....the bottom line is that I definitely highly recommend that you listen to this book!!!!

Great Story Meets Great Narration

When I read the summary of MusicArolina I was captivated. A frightening, yet music filled town, where bank robbers go to hide and then need to escape...all written with humor? The book itself is wonderfully written and I laughed audibly often! What made this an even better "read" was the audio narration by the talented Theo Holland. Theo continues to amaze me with his talents. He brings in various voices for characters, but subtly in a way that flavors the text and does not overdo the reading. He makes the story come alive, and he knows "funny," meaning when to pause and how to tell a joke (or read a line that was written for the purpose of humor). As I say the writing itself is humorous but Mr. Holland only added to it.

An excellent story that follows no rules

I found myself easily wrapped up in this book. I couldn't stop listening to Mr. Gunning's elaborately told adventure. From the scenes set in the present, the scenes set in flashbacks, and dare I say it, even the songs left me wanting to continue the tale.
The characters, the references, and my inability to compare this to any other book makes me want to share it with as many people as possible. If you're looking for a story that is an unexpected surprise, then this is the book you need.
Theo Holland did an excellent job reading Daniel's words.

Long winded

The narrator was great, but someone should have told the author that excessive exposition does not a good book make.
Much of the wonderful witty banter was buried in long winded monologues.

I would have given the book a four star even with this newbie mistake if the last three hours hadn't felt like a week long church sermon.

good story but horrible reading

The story was good and entertaining but the voice actor didn't sing any of the musical parts. He just talked thru all the musical parts with a weird robot voice mix. It really ruined a lot of the story. Wait untill they get a new voice actor/cast that can actually sing the parts.
