Publisher's summary

Number six in multiple New York Times best seller Larry Correia's Monster Hunter series.

Go big or go home.

When Monster Hunter International's top hunter, Owen Zastava Pitt, was given a tip about some hunters who had gone missing in action, he didn't realize their rescue mission would snowball into the single biggest operation in MHI's history. Their men are being held prisoner in a horrific nightmare dimension, and the only way to reach them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster-infested war zone.

As if that wasn't bad enough, it's also the home base of the powerful creature behind the devastating attacks on the Last Dragon and Copper Lake. It turns out ancient gods of chaos really hate trespassers. But this god picked a fight with the wrong crew, and now MHI wants payback. Calling on their allies, a massive expedition is formed, and with the odds stacked against them, a legion of hunters goes to war.

It's D-Day at the City of Monsters.

Author Turned Farmer

This installment of the MHI series is okay. It continues the story, further setting up the final showdown between Z & his destiny. Except that it feels more like filler, lacking substance, & rather than adding depth to the central plot, this installment's purpose seems to be similar to that of a wine press. However, rather than squeezing grapes to make juice to make wine to drink, MHI: Siege squeezes bank accounts to make $$$ to make the author richer. Perhaps Correia (according to the author himself it should be pronounced Korea, like the country, & according to me, not Coheeah, as pronounced in the intro & end credit by Audible) is too busy authoring & coauthoring installments for his many other series, & thus fulfilling his seeming goal of becoming a famous, ultra prolific & exceedingly wealthy author, to give this book the attention it deserved.
Correia, of late, seems to be indulging in over-farming the MHI franchise. Both Memoirs books were supersaturated gratuitously with foul language, little substance & read more like fan fiction than anything actually written by the man who had authored the main plot MHI books. Left me wondering how much had been written by Correia & how much by his co-author.
I really hope Larry Correia does not continue to farm out his excellent MHI series, or write the first book or three of a new series & then become a James Patterson hack who puts his name on other books but actually has little to do with.
All previous 5 main story books of MHI were fantastic. However, after reading Nemesis, Siege was a let down.
Typical shoot 'em up excitement, if less frequently, not much new added to the story arc, very little resolution, predictable ending, no Franks except for a few mentions of his name, a Harbinger who does nothing worth mentioning, a wimpy Julie, & cameo appearances by Mosh, Ed, Trip & other main supporting characters, a fairly flat storyline, failure to pronounce the author's name correctly even once, so-so narration due to the limited range of the reader, an anticlimactic showdown featuring a 'Friday the 13th' type ending between what should/could have been the most bad*ss villain in all 6 books thus far & Z, & a "Huh? That's it? Really?!" book ending left me very disappointed with Nemesis. I really hope book 7 is written by the real Larry Correia.

A bit of a disappointment

Where to begin...well, in honor of Monster Hunter Seige's release I relistened to the MHI series to refresh my memory, anticipating it would pick up where #4 and 5 left off. I also found out recently that Mr. Correia lost his father.

With the above in mind I wasn't surprised to discover that the focus of #6 was on Owen Pitt's impending paternity and his introspection on how his father raised him. There are some entertaining parts featuring the lively cast of characters in the MHI universe, but there's also a lot of Owen's internal monologing and dialoging about fatherhood, being a father and coming to grips with his childhood opinions of his father.

I'm sad to say there's a lack of balance in Monster Hunter Seige, the adventure is a secondary or even tertiary concern and worst of all, the characters and Owen especially, fail stupid at a number of points in the book. I hate when an author does that. Clues are missed and obvious tells are ignored, making listening a bit of a slog to get through, the eventual outcome being no surprise and the listener left frustrated.

Here's hoping MHI #7 discontinues along this vein and gets back on track with the earlier novels.

Oliver Wyman's narration, per usual, is top notch.

I feel like Larry is loosing interest.

I love this series. IMHO, this is Larry's best stuff. I'm afraid, however, that Larry Correia is becoming bored with the series and is more interested in writing his other series.

Look at the release dates:
First three books: 2011
4th: 2012
5th: 2014
6th: 2017 and it carries on the story but is less than satisfying. I really wanted to like t his one and downloaded it the day it became available.
7th: If the exponential decay continues, not till 2021.

Where is the incredible newbie squad?

I listened to this whole book almost non-stop, but missed Trip and Holly's involvement. A good chunk of the book has them missing without giving any spoilers away.

I still enjoyed the story, which takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. I will even admit to getting a little teary eyed with "the Destroyer's" involvement with Owen. Everyone knew that back story was coming in this book, but wow.

My biggest gripe now is that I have to wait for the next book to be released to find out the conclusion... it's worth the wait though, because I have the rest of the series to RE-read.

Too long for such a poor ending.

Definitely not the authors best. Long build up for an underwheliming and boring ending. Good thing the narrator is good, otherwise this one would have been unlistenable. The first few books in the series are very good, but the more recent ones have been major let downs. Author needs to get back to less fluff and more fight.

loved it.. period.

I have long been anticipating this book and I'm sad to have finished it. I'm glad Larry touched on some questions I had and set it up to get more in depth with them in future mhi titles. I was saddened to hear some parts of this book(those who read it will know why) but it was bitter sweet and done well. it's my absolute favorite series and I can't wait for more. one thing that bothered the hell out of me oddly enough was the beginning and end intro when they pronounced Larry's last name wrong. they went 5 books pronouncing it right and now they screw it up? just an annoying and odd mistake.. other than that I loved the book and wish it never had to end. Il be waiting for guardian with baited breath. Thanks Larry for creating such an awesome series that has gotten me through some tough times.

Only about half a book stretched out

Not up to the standard I've come to expect from Correia for the MHI books. Over the last couple of books, I've felt that Pitt has become one of the least interesting characters, with Franks and Harbinger often stealing the show. This book is pretty much only Pitt, no Franks, and most of the other regulars only getting cameo appearances at best. It makes for a pretty dull story that doesn't even have as much interesting action as the other books. Half the book is just him flying around meeting people with a few token actions scenes to break up the monotony. I stuck with it because I thought it was building towards a climactic battle in towards the end. Instead we got a token battle, then some pretty predictable stuff happens, the real battle is glossed over in one line and you're left with a all too foreseeable cliffhanger.

It feels like most of the book could have been trimmed down into about a quarter of the length and what I presume will be in the next book combined with this one. Towards the end I was hoping he'd just kill off the main character and his tiresome "chosen-one" spiel, so we could get back to the more interesting guys.

Good One, But Not The Best

Finally it is here, I was waiting for this book for a while, wanted to know what will happen after Vagus.... It was a good book, with good new characters and funny moments. I really enjoyed it.. But it is not as good as I thought it would be....I don't know how to explain it, but something was off, can't really put my finger on it, but.........

Still enjoyed this read, but I want more and fast..... I do hope that Larry won't release another 3 books before releasing the aftermath of Siege.

Narration is excellent of course.

Must read book!

The series just keeps getting better

Mr. Correia keep the theme of the series intact, character development is more solid each entry. I was sad to see the Grimnoir series end after only three books, but know that the author is involved in so many projects the wait for the next MHI installment is frustrating. Hope he can rededicate himself to this series for a while so the next installment comes out sooner. I don' think he makes any royalties each time I reread the earlier releases. As usual the dialogue is entertaining and
Mr. Wyman does his usual award quality narrating. Oh, lots of new guns and monsters in ''tis one as well. Sometimes I worry about how scary the inside of the authors head s to bring the monsters and alternate dimensions to such vivid life. Thanks again Mr. Correia for the enjoyment your stories bring. Now I will read the hard cover edition which I actually got just before the audible edition came out.
