Publisher's summary

Solina Mundy lives a quiet life, running the family bakery in her small North Carolina hometown. But one night, she suffers a vivid nightmare in which a wolfish beast is devouring her twin brother, who lives in Alaska. The next morning, police notify her that Mani is dead. Driven to learn the truth, Solina heads for the Land of the Midnight Sun. Once there, she begins to suspect Mani's friends know more about his death than they've let on.

Skyla, an ex-Marine, is the only one willing to help her. As Solina and Skyla delve into the mystery surrounding Mani's death, Solina is stunned to learn that her own life is tied to Mani's friends, his death, and the fate of the entire world. If she can't learn to control her newfound gifts and keep her friends safe, a long-lost dominion over mortals will rise again, and everything she knows will fall into darkness.

Good story

I got this ARC via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This story was well developed and the narration was in keeping with the material presented. I believe that in her search for what happened to her brother she was able to find what she needed to fulfill her life.

Midnight Burning

What a great book! I really enjoyed it. The narration was great too. The characters are fleshed out and the story moves along at a good clip. The book ends without a conclusion so I can't wait to read the next one! Definitely worth the buy!

Interesting twist on Norse Mythology

I gave this story four stars because it was an extremely slow start. It took me a couple of hours to get into it, and even then it was up and down for me. It wasn't until I was halfway through the book that I became much more interested in what was going to happen, and who these characters actually were. I was also a little disappointed in the ending and how you literally have no clue what occurred when she finally confronted the people responsible for her brother's death, which is what the book spent all of that time building up to. By the time the second book comes out, I just may have lost interest in even finding out.

The narrator, Jennifer Fournier, was top notch. She reads extremely well, and I find her very pleasant and easy to listen to. If she narrates the next one, the odds are higher that I will give it a listen, because I love her narration style.

A good start to a new Norse fantasy series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

As the title says, this is a good start to a Norse pantheon fantasy series. It is a little slow at first, as the author provides a lot of background, but it definitely picks up. I was a little worried going in, because this was a fantasy romance novel and sometimes the romance part completely overwhelms the actual story and causes me to lose interest. Thankfully, this was not the case for this book. I liked that this was focused on Norse mythology. There aren't as many series out there that focus on this set of gods, so it is a pleasant change. The narrator has a nice voice and does a adequate job of giving the characters their own voice. This book does end with a cliffhanger, though, so fair warning.

Viking mythology in the current world

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had never thought about what it would feel like to be a legitimate Norse god in today's world. What I discovered in this book was one interpretation of what that would be like. Norse lore fascinates me and I loved Sonia's introduction to the world. This story did end on a bit of a cliffhanger for me so I can't wait to listen to the next one!

Great new series!

I really enjoyed the storyline; however, the narrator didn't do it justice. I almost quit listening because of the narration. Fortunately, I was able to stick it out...and I'm so glad I did. The story is full of adventure, mystery and magic. Every Tim I thought I knew what was coming, I was wrong! I loved it and can't wait for the next! The First Volume in a Series

What starts out as a murder mystery becomes a full-blown supernatural tale of Norse mythology in modern times.

"Midnight Burning" is the first volume in a series, and suffers from the need to set up the story and introduce you to all the characters in a short space of time. Consequently you end up with too many coincidences, a lot of rushing around back and forth, many small holes within the structure of the story line, and a disappointing cliffhanger at the end.

That being said, I thought it was an enjoyable listen and would recommend it. I look forward to the 2nd and 3rd volumes and hope they are able to move past the get-it-all-into-the-first-volume woes of this book.

Note: if you don't like cliffhangers, you might want to wait for the 2nd volume to come out before listening.

The narration by Jennifer Fournier was terrific.

Definitely worthwhile read! Cannot wait for the next book!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I really enjoyed this book! It's an interesting twist on Norse mythology with an ordinary girl put into situations that help sculpt her into a heroine! I also like how the love story is more of a secondary story and it allows the romance to grow overtime versus a books that usually has them unrealistically falling in love overnight. This book has a strong female character with interesting secondary characters help make this book awesome.

The narration is well done as well. Jennifer uses a wide arrange of voices and makes listening to the book easy.

I strongly suggest this book!
