Publisher's summary

Roger Ramius Sergei Chiang MacClintock was young, handsome, athletic, an excellent dresser, and third in line for the Throne of Man. So it wasn't surprising that he became spoiled, self-centered, and petulant. After all, what else did he have to do with his life?

But that was before his mother, the empress, packed him off to a backwater planet and he found himself shipwrecked on the planet Marduk, with jungles full of damnbeasts, killerpillars, carnivorous plants, and barbarian hordes of bad disposition. Fortunately, Roger had an ace in the hole: Bravo Company of Bronze Battalion of the Empress' Own Regiment. Now all Roger has to do is hike halfway around the planet, capture a spaceport from the Bad Guys, commandeer a starship, and go home.

Don't miss the rest of the action in the Prince Roger Series.

One of my Top Ten Book Series

I just finished listening to this series for the third time in about seven years. I found "March Upcountry" originally in a discount bookstore on CD. I purchased it and it took me a while before I got to it. I'm more of a Fantasy fan than traditional Sci-Fi. After listening to the first book, I immediately found the next three and purchase them.

This is a great series, full of very memorable characters. Weber and Ringo do a great job in developing the characters, especially Prince Roger, and then Stefan Rudnicki brings them all to life. What a wonderful talent he has in helping you walk alongside these men and women of the Bronze Barbarians. He is a fantastic performer, for this audiobook series at least.

If you haven't started this series, I believe you will enjoy this even if you aren't already a fan of David Weber. Take the chance and enjoy the walk through Marduk.

Loved this book.

I had never heard of the authors, but the description of the story and the reviews hooked me. This is worth the read/listen.

A Fine work of SF/Fantasy

I had never heard or read these authors before, but now I'm hooked! Great story line, decent character development (not Enders Game!)and over all a great summer adventure story! I listen to audible content on my iPod at work, and this one had me hooked in the car to work, at work and on the drive home, only to finish it up the following day. I can't wait for the other books in this series come come to audible!

I love Prince Roger and Company

This is essentially a story about the coming of age of a young man. But don't think it's boring, not by any means.

March Upcountry has action, but not a lot of blood and guts. There's humor--so far it hasn't been ROTFL, but I haven't been feeling well. There is some language, including the F word, and the liberal use of puck, my favorite.

Stepfan Rudnicki does an excellent job, as usual. My favorite character, and excuse me, I can't remember his name, is the character who liberally says puck. Mr. Rudnicki went above and beyond with him!

I suppose you could read the second book first, but I wouldn't suggest it. You lose so much of the history, fun, and and why it's a coming of age story.

I usually reserve five stars for the best book I've read in a while. I think this deserves a five!

I love this series. Can't wait to "read" three!

A Good Listen!

This book and the whole series is a good investment in time and money. It doesn't fit any of the standard formulas which made it all the more enjoyable. Stefan Rudnicki brings it home for us.

Great concept, but too much filler...

Any additional comments?

This first book is, by far, the best of the series. The next two books, however, should have been shortened and combined into one, as they were a bit too monotonous for me. If not for the top notch narration, I may have given up on this series. The story picks up again in the fourth book, though - so don't give up too soon! My 'star' ratings reflect the series as a whole.

Fun story and a great narrator!

This was fun enough that I'll definitely listen to the 3 remaining books in series.

Strong characters, a bit too much technical detail

This is the story of a spoiled brat of a prince who comes into his own after getting stranded on a hostile planet. I enjoyed the character development and the narration was excellent. The battle and fight scenes were plentiful, possibly a bit too plentiful for my personal taste. What I could have lived without, however, were the extensive ballistic and technical details of all of the weaponry used.
