Publisher's summary

Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shape-shifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta. Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shape-shifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute - and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer - but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap.…

Trying to save Pack adolescents

One of the more emotional stories in the series. Curran and Kate and crew travel to Europe for the chance to get a supply of Panacea to help save adolescent shifters. Of course, they know it’s a trap, but they’ve got to try.
There’s only one point that just didn’t work for me in Magic Rises - Curran letting Lorelei sit next to him at dinner. He could still show signs of favor to her without a blatant disregard of protocol which would so directly disrespect Kate, and lower his integrity in front of the other packs. It’s the only time I can remember having a disconnect with one of their stories.
At the end, Andrews has added on “An Ill-Advised Rescue”, the story of when Kate rescued Saimen and earned the favor which got the Pack the boat to travel on.
Raudman does a great job of narration.

always fantastic

I am in a relisten of entire series, and not for the first time. I love the magical Atlanta of Kate & co and was heartbroken the series ended. While each can technically be a standalone (authors rehash salient points) for the most enjoyment start at the beginning with Magic Bites and listen in order. Worthy of a credit urban fantasy at its best.

Great to the last word

I usually do not review books/audio books because I feel that great books are in the eye of the reader. Tastes vary, what is one person's cup of tea is not necessarily another's.

Audio books can be hard to review because sometimes a voice just doesn't go with the story. I've had some great books that were just ruined.

These books and the narrator put that to rest. I have now found where the two mesh completely and it has pretty much raised the bar for me. Now I expect all books to be the same.

I can't wait for the next book in the series! Some people may not agree with me and that's fine, it's my personal opinion. As Kate would say... Take it or leave it! You won't be disappointed.

loved it, an action packed story.

Kate Daniels is my type of heroin. She's caring and she fights like the best of them. She also has a heart for the underdog and Curran is very lucky to have her in his life. She's a strong woman with lots of depths to her. Can't wait to see or read what she gets up to next.

Widens the World

This book really seems to have moved the storyline forward. It was very cool to see all the familiar characters in an unfamiliar setting, it was nice to get them out of Atlanta. It was also interesting to see how another part of the world is dealing with the world shift toward magic. I love how Kate seems to grow in her magic and her personality with every book. She learns how to do something by trial and error, not just a giant leap. The storyline with the bodyguarding reminds a bit of the earlier books but I love how Kate is in charge because she is the one with the experience. I'll miss the character who didn't make it through the book but I can't wait to see what happens next with this. It'll seem like a long time before the next book comes out. Renee Raudman did a fantastic job as usual. Her voices were consistent with the previous books and she manages to make every character sound distinct.

LilyElement Book Reviews - Magic Rises

Any additional comments?

Kate Daniels returns in book six of the Kate Daniels series. This time around Kate and Curran are invited to go across the world to mediate and bodyguard a former acquaintance of Curran's the weeks before she gives birth. You see, the girl is pregnant with twins by two different fathers. Whoever's child is born first gets a prize pretty much. Each wants it, which leads to a lot of tension between everyone involved.

Magic Rises opens with two teens at the Keep running the risk of going loop. Going loop is a death sentence for any shifter. If they cannot maintain control of their shifter side they are putting everyone in danger. Curran is promised a medicine that will help children not go loop, if they go to bodyguard the girl Curran knew in his past. They are hesitant, but it's a necessary risk. There is another little twist to the story though, Kate has been hiding in plain sight for her entire life. A guy that works for her father was introduced a few books back, and I've been waiting for the big confrontation between the two. Hugh d'Ambray wants to trap Kate into showing that she really is Roland's daughter. He'll have ample opportunity to do so while everyone is playing bodyguard. His ulterior motive is to divide and conquer though. I wasn't sure if the shifters brought along would be able to stick together, or if they'd crumble according to plan.

This review is hard to write. There is an epic battle in this book and more than one person was injured. Some of the ones we've grown to care about are injured to the point of death, and some do not survive. So emotional. I immediately wanted to know what happened next, so I've read the next book. I'll post the review for Magic Breaks up later this week. If you're looking for a Urban Fantasy series that just keeps getting better and better, I highly suggest the Kate Daniel's series.
