Publisher's summary

Something terrible, unspeakable, immense has come to Menzoberranzan and is leaving death and destruction in its wake. The primordial of Gauntlgrym stirs, sending Cattie-brie and Gromph to Luskan and the ruins of the only power that can keep the beast in check. The damage of the Darkening, of war, and of a demon-ravaged Underdark has sent cracks out across the North. Some of this damage may never be repaired.

And Drizzt is going home. But not to Mithral Hall. Not to Icewind Dale. He's going to Menzoberranzan. Bruenor is ready to march with him, bringing along an army of dwarves to end the scourge of Menzoberranzan, but Drizzt needs to see what's happening there. The dwarf army may not be necessary. The City of Spiders might already have fallen to the demons and their wicked prince. But even if that's true, what's to say the demons will stop there?

Maestro picks up where Archmage left off, plunging Drizzt into his most dangerous adventure yet and with all the action, adventure, beloved characters, dark elves, monsters, and demon princes Drizzt fans adore.

To Deep and To Unbelievable

Where to start. I've love the whole Dark Elf Saga. Not just the Lone Ranger but the who dynamic that is the Dark Elf Life. Yet this book left me rolling my eyes. What makes any great antagonist is their flaws and their imperfections. It's what made Quenthal (hope I spelled that right) so loved as the Matron Mother. Loths pettiness and limitations even as a God made her enjoyable. Yet once you start creating powers that are damn near perfect and almost all seeing you lose me. And when you destroy the core of your Hero for no reason other than you can... You lose me. Another sickness!? One that puts doubt in the purest heart in the D&D universe... Lost me. Do better R.A. Please.

AWESOME !!!

This is a masterpiece of audio music to massage the inner recesses of literary fantasy and lore.
Mr Salvatore has changed....No , Elevated his presentation of the story.
He has made it seamless and in turn keeps one drooling like a Dwarf staring at a female Dwarf with a better beard than his lol.

I have to say please let others know about Drizzt and the books he's in.
It is a wonderful gift for the mind .

Especially this one.

The madness of destroying a fan favorite character

I hate this new method of madness and the fact that non of his companions can see it happening.

not my favorite

the hero was always in his own head and never my favorite character in the series but this shift to super emo really sacked the excitement out of it for me. the book is also very sexualized. I have no problem with a more mature book but it was too over the top and annoyed me in the end.

Enjoyed this book

Victor has another great performance. I like that the Archmage is more a fixture in these stories.

Expecting More.

Definitely not worth the wait, another six months for a let down, story was dull until the last half hour.

Good moments buried in piles of blah

I don't know if RA Salvatore is a writer who has jumped the proverbial shark or just that my expectations have gotten higher as I got older. Its possibly a bit of both. There were some highlights in the book, glimpses of quality writing and plot, but they were sandwiched between long bouts of endlessly repetitive "Drow Infighting." which has been interesting in the past but is now so repetitive that it has just became stone dull. This book is a big step down from the previous book Archmage which had many of the same problems, but which had a significantly better cool/blah ratio.

So if you Archmage was a borderline book for you, stop there.

I wasn't sure where this book was going

As the title says...
Some time passes that you're left to assume from archmage to maestro but not much.

Overall the book started out slow but built up quickly then things started to get weird until you understand why.

It's not as action packed as his past books but definetly more mature in its writing.

Very disappointing

What disappointed you about Maestro?

The story was sloppy and meandering. The plot was weak. The character interactions were contrived. The "struggle" in the story quickly became tiresome.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

1) Virtually nothing is done with the Host Tower ... a team is assembled to rebuild it but nothing really happens with it. The interaction between Cattie-Brie and Penelope regarding Gromph is unrealistic and I found myself actually disliking Cattie-Brie because of it.

2) While I have wanted to read about Drizzt, Entreri, and Jarlaxle fighting side-by-side for a long time, I actually feel that we were deprived this when we felt like it was about to happen. Illusions, psionic intrusions, hallucinations, and Faerzress madness all muddied the entire quest to the point that we never got to truly enjoy them working as a team.

3) In the end the new Yvonnel the Eternal expected Drizzt and team to come to the city, do what they did, then be released. Why not assist them? ... it is what she wanted in the end all of the work to get there was basically meaningless as she wanted them there anyhow so that Drizzt could champion the city.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I do not know

What does Victor Bevine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is able to convey emotion and tension in a way that I may not take the time to do so.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It furthers the saga of Drizzt

Any additional comments?

This book feels like it was written hastily and with no plan of where the story would go ... it just kind of eventually ended.
