Your world is now forfeit

I love that the dude upgraded his body and ended up looking kinda like Keanu. This is a fun book, the MC has big anger issues which he's trying to work through and seems to be maybe pansexual from some of his conversations.
Very cool concept that weaves in lots of familiar skills and ideas. I liked it and am looking forward to another chapter in this story.

Very unexpected

A lot better than expected, hoping the story stays interesting in the second book. As always Nick is an amazing narrator and the characters have good feel to them I think this touches on some things that get left to the dust for characters that John experience and it is the anger they have built in that usually gets shoehorned into being some random burst of raw power and strength for them rather than actually being a flaw for the character.

God damn it John

Right so the thing is this so mostly a fun listen. There is a lot to like but the thing is John our hero is the fucking worst. I understand where he is coming from and why he does a lot of what he does but the things the man is still a bloody idiot and extremely frustrating. Can we get a new protagonist like Lana or Richard or any one but this jack ass who is a fucking idiot. It is rare for me to hate a protagonist this much. I can only that in the future he either improves and stops being a selfish man child or we change main characters.

Look, just go get it, it's a great listen...

I'll keep this simple and to the point:

- Great Concept
- Strong plot, flow and pace
- Narrator does it justice
- The second book in the series is waiting for you, and it's worth it.
- Lots of fun, and a great romp that blends scifi and fantasy.

Look, just go get it, it's a great listen, if you like LitRPGs.

Enjoy!

Great story and performance

I love this storyline but I don't know why. I really like the narrator and he has done other Lit RPG books just as well. It makes me nervous that the third book is "not available yet" I hope this doesn't become a never ending wait like a few other series I am waiting STILL for the next book in the series to become buyable! Some of these I have been waiting YEARS for not exaggerating. DON'T WAVE THE CARROT IN FRONT OF MY FACE IF YOU NEVER GIVE IT TO ME! But yah worth the credit and would buy book three as soon as it becomes available.

New Favorite!

This is an amazing story. I COULD NOT STOP LISTENING. I thought it was brilliant how he is good & evil, smart but depressed, strong yet vulnerable. Already bought #2 & waiting for #3 release!

suck

the closest romance he has is a male elf, so if you're not bi, it's going to annoy you, it jumps around so much that the story loses all it's life, no build up just start, finish nothing in the middle, starts out strong to draw you in then dies. get alter world, viriden gate or life reset ,world seed or a myriad of other series of the same genre that are better

Better than most LitRPGs

I'm an addicted fan of the genre, but find that all too often many of the selections on Audible are poorly written, cheesy, pubescent sex or power fantasies, whose characters are at best unbearably annoying and the damage is often compounded by being hammed up by over-emphatic narration.

... And absolutely worst of all, these books have clearly never been edited by someone with more than a 6th grade education in English writing composition.

So it's always exciting when a new series comes out written by an author who defies the norm. Wong has written a LitRPG novel that not only avoids all of the above problems but also expands the genre with a unique perspective.

Tired of the sudden jerks to Homosexuality.

Frankly, I dont care who you love in this life. Male on male, Female on Female. But my taste is rather old school normative. I like classic male - female relationships in my literature. Its what I enjoy hearing. Its a complete put off for me when the story turns to Bisexual fantasy material out of nowhere after 4 hours of quite interesting buildup.
Nick Podehl does an amazing job on this book and on every book he has done but i'm starting to detect a pattern of this sort of story twist. (Sufficiently advanced magic is another example.)
Call me intolerant, I dont care. Politics has no bearing on what I enjoy in entertainment. I'm tired of every love story turning into a virtue signaling mess that doesn't make sense to the plot when the MC suddenly comes out of the closet after flirting with a different relationship the entire book.
I'm done. Just done.

Unexpected!!

This book rocked!! I read the blurb and had a picture of what I thought it was about, but this is so much better than I thought. The plot was unique and intriguing!! The basic premise is that John needed a break and so went to Kluane National Park for the weekend, little did he know that his life is about to change beyond anything he ever thought! He wakes up to a world completely changed. He is living in a game, but it's not a game, it's real life and he needs to figure out how to survive and level up before it's too late! The plot was fast paced, intriguing and exciting!

I didn't really like John. I found his anger issues just.... weird and annoying. I felt like there was no need for them, but then again, maybe it's revealed in a later book!! All I know is that I had a hard time connecting with him. Not that I totally hated him, he did have some redeeming qualities and I'm hoping he grows a bit more in the next one.

The world building was the best thing about this book. I loved the idea behind it and feel like it's a novel and unique LitRPG book that everyone should read. I loved trying to figure out the world along with the characters. There is also a plethora of magical animals and beings to satisfy everyone. I fell in love with the world and can not wait for the next one!!

In all, a fun and fast read. It captured my attention right from the start and held it till the end. An intriguing and exciting book and I highly recommend!!

I've heard of Nick Podehl before but never listened to anything he has narrated, but that was my mistake because ,wow, he was amazing!! He had an array of tones and voices for all the characters and really brought this to life. It was like listening to a cast of characters instead of just one person. I've already added some of his other ones to my wish list.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Life in the North is true a great idea and superbly well achieved and balanced with a bit off fight and base construction. Nick really much enjoy this because I can even feel the carecters emotions coming through!!! I can certainly said that I am in love with this series!!!!

Interesting idea for a story

Do you have any additional comments?

During action it was easy to follow the story but often I found the changes between scenes and enviroments erratic and abrupt. It is just my feeling though so don't let me put you off this book. The idea for the story is really good and characters are unique. It's just the way the story flows made me loose track of it more times than I can count. But if you can ignore it, this is a good book overall.

Unique but...

Nice bit of change from the normal type of litrpg but it’s a pretty standard MC who is the typical angry character, and then it’s a mess of writing jumping all over the place. Average.
