Publisher's Summary

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

    "a beautiful emotional rollercoaster"

I had my doubts about the actors in the beginning going in but the actors were amazing. the story was great and it was an interesting and thrilling tell with a somber but sweet ending. I wish I had the money for the sequel

    "loved it but..."

this is a great story, kept me on edge the whole time. the only thing that i thought could improve were the narrating. they were not very good at portraying the characters in their monotoned voices. i think it would have made the story even more enjoyable if the narrators put more effort in acting out the characters.

    "Great dystopian, really enjoyed it."
Would you consider the audio edition of Legend to be better than the print version?

Never read the print, can't say!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Legend?

I can't say I really enjoyed the part where Day gets captured, but it's a pivotal moment in the book. I think that is when June really begins to see things as they are and not what the government wants its civilians to see.

Which character – as performed by Mariel Stern and Steven Kaplan – was your favorite?

Mariel Stern.....but only marginally. They were both good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions. This doesn't say anything about the book....I don't cry often and and it's not a funny book.

    Any additional comments?

I definitely recommend this for fans of dystopian.

"YA book that kept my attention"

Definitely a Young Adult book, Legend nevertheless managed to keep my attention and interest. I might even consider following them onto the next story in the series.

    "Shockingly Good!!"

My annoying brother kept on asking me to buy this book saying it was good.. the annoying thing he is saying that while he didn't buy it too..
But you know how brothers could get annoying, so he bought it through my account and then told me he did... Anyways, I had a listen to it, and shockingly i liked nit. Its a bit similar to hunger games and Divergent as everyone is saying.. but its not really the same, actually i found some similarity (a tiny bit) to the passage.

I liked the idea of having two characters which the story is being told through. thats a good thing in my book. The book is not too short, and not too long, its just prefect length.

Things didn't go easy in this book, and you could some how feel the hardship these people are going through. and there is a deeper plot going through the book, its not clear yet, so waiting to read the next two books.

Good book, Great Plot. you will like it.

    Story
    "Liked it, Didn't Love It"

This was a novel that I thought I would like better than I did - a strong female character and an interesting male character that wasn't typical romance alpha male. Set in dystopian Los Angeles with a lot of action and intrigue. Fortunately, the story really picks up in the second book and characterization missing from this first book is greatly expanded upon in the second novel Prodigy.

For me, the first book left me flat - the characters were ciphers and not relatable or developed. We weren't given a lot of information about who they were - only what they were thinking as it related to the plot. I didn't have a feel either for June or Day (but especially not June) by the end of the first book.

I was conflicted on whether to continue with the second novel but I'm glad I did. Prodigy continued the story but finally deepened both the characters and the world. As well, Lu has managed to eschew so many romance cliches by the next book. Side characters will especially be developed, grow, change, mature - and not be obviously good or bad as we learn more about them in the continuing story.

The narrators really did a great job - I felt the characters were 15 year old in how they talked and reacted.

    Story
    "Unimaginative and Predictable."

Legend is teenager junk food in the scheme of current YA dystopia. It is quick and short and not fulfilling in any way. Honestly I expect dystopia books to have some new or unique idea on what direction society could disintegrate into. I do give Lu props, though, for somehow selling a storyline for publication that has been over-used for many years - the military state, experimentation on the poor.../yawn. There's not even great prose to give you some hope for this series. The positive this book has is that it's short, fast-paced, and acceptable prose. Given that the main characters are 15 perhaps her target audience is junior high, which actually might be acceptable then. With so many great current YA dystopia - Mazerunner, Divergent, Delirium, Hunger Games - why spend you time on this unimaginative book?

There are two narrators in this book and neither add value to the novel. The female narrator especially disappointed me. When discussing death of someone she cares about she reads it just like every other line.

I've read this book 5 times and each time is a new adventure. I love the story line and how smooth the transitions are. Narrators are great. I wish she would make this into a movie!!

    "better than expected"

It took a while for me to get into it because the narrators were kind of dry, but then as the story progressed their tone made sense for the characters. The story pulls you in
