Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The Republic has fallen. Sith Lords rule the galaxy. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi has lost everything . . . everything but hope.

Tatooine—a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy.

Known to locals only as “Ben,” the bearded and robed offworlder is an enigmatic stranger who keeps to himself, shares nothing of his past, and goes to great pains to remain an outsider. But as tensions escalate between the farmers and a tribe of Sand People led by a ruthless war chief, Ben finds himself drawn into the fight, endangering the very mission that brought him to Tatooine.

Ben—Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, hero of the Clone Wars, traitor to the Empire, and protector of the galaxy’s last hope—can no more turn his back on evil than he can reject his Jedi training. And when blood is unjustly spilled, innocent lives threatened, and a ruthless opponent unmasked, Ben has no choice but to call on the wisdom of the Jedi—and the formidable power of the Force—in his never-ending fight for justice.

it's like if Shane had a lightsaber!

it's like if Shane had a lightsaber! the first couple chapters are slow, setting up the town, but all the stuff about obiwan dealing with his grief post order 66 is great, and the world building going in to the culture of the Tuscan raiders is fascinating

A Star Wars Western

A missing piece of Star Wars history done in a very spaghetti western style using the setting of Tatooine as the rugged backdrop. Both well written and high production value on recording. Highly recommend.

A slow burn

The slow to pick up story is carried by the incredibly spot on narration for Obi Wan, giving serious McGregor vibes. luckily that slow build comes to an interesting and quite satisfying payoff in the climax.

wonderful star wars story

This is a wonderful Star Wars story with great performance and voice acting. It follows Obi-Wan starting life on Tattooine after Episode 3. It would have been very easy for this to just be an Obi-Wan story (and I still would have been happy with that, cuz he's the best), but i was pleasantly surprised to hear the other characters stand on their own. The story also features several plot lines coming together for a satisfying end. Whether you're a fan of the Star Wars EU or just looking for a good audio book, this is for you.

Lonely Justice

I wish they had kept this in the new timeline when Disney rebooted everything. The characters, story, and performance are each high caliber. Kenobi's loneliness and inner turmoil as he tries to settle into life on Tatooine is palpable. You get a good sense of his struggle when the mission of protecting Luke clashes with his former calling as a peacekeeper and protector/restorer of justice. In spite of himself he gets drawn into events in the town closest to where he lives, and has to make choices about doing what is right or remaining anonymous.

It's really really good. Worth multiple listens in my opinion. The action is driven by the character struggles, which I liked. Jonathan Davis is a great narrator as per usual.
